upgrade questions from an expired dongled RMS to 2.0

I have a client who is wanting to upgrade from a dongled version of RMS (not sure which flavor). They had two questions:

1) Can the dongle be re-subscribed so as not to upgrade? 2) Can an expired RMS be upgraded or does a new license altogether need to be purchased?

Doug, Dongles don't expire. The driver needs to be set up correctly and/or the RMS software needs to be set up and used correctly.

It can be replaced by Microsoft through a registered RMS reseller if it is bad, or set up and used correctly if it is not bad. V1.3+ supported for now.

Old versions of RMS can be upgraded if the user is on an active Microsoft support plan.

If they are not on an active support contract, can they A)purchase a new maintenance agreement and then get an upgrade? Or B) purchase 2.0, and if so, will it find and upgrade the previous DB?

Hi Doug,

fast answers: A) Yes, they can purchase the maintenence only (and get v2.0 afterwards), but will probably need to pay some penalty fee, for not beeing on the plan up today. Talk to your RMS Partner about it or if You are a Partner, talk directly to the oficial RMS distributor for the market. B) Yes, they can purchase an v2.0 of RMS, with the maintenence included, and if the version of RMS is v1.x they can easily upgrade the DB... if previous versions of RMS (before MSFT) some extra work need to be done I think...

Regrads, Antonijo
