Vote to keep your Dongles!!!

What happens if you

Problem RMS 2.0 If your register goes down on the weekend what do you tell the customers ?Come back later? I don?t think so.

Solution RMS 1.2 I can help you over here with a smile at backup register Thank you have a nice day.

Problem 2.0 Seasonal businesses with multiple buildings sell items in the fall out of one building thru October 31st. Registers hookup to net display, sales, scanner, cash draws and can not afford to damage machines moving them to other buildings.

Solution RMS 1.2 We have 6 lanes that we open depending on the season. All we need to do now is close RMS on the machines we are not using and open it on the other registers. It takes less then 60 seconds and doesn?t risk damaging all the expensive hardware this software requires you to invest in.

Seems like the bottom line here is business as usual - that Microsoft wants to screw as many people as possible. It?s not like huge corporations (Sears, Wal-Mart, etc.) with deep pockets are using this POSh*t software. It?s funded by the mom and pop operators, who will not be able to justify the high costs of implementing and maintaining this system balanced against the low return on investment. Microsoft may just want this product to disappear, and this is their way of burying it and saving face at the same time. ?We upgraded the product, but nobody wanted to buy it so we have to discontinue it.?

I think Microsoft should refund all the currant RMS users there money and give them the choice if they want to buy an upgrade or full version like they do with all there other software.

What do think!!

Actually there is a number that you can call at anytime to get a key if you need to re-install like any Microsoft product. Technically this is better than the dongle. If your dongle gets damaged you cannot do anything until hyou get a replacement that can last 5-0 days. With the phone you can be up and running in no time. So NO I believe the dongle makes sense.

Now also remember that Manager in Microsoft is for intensive purposes FREE. Whilst all other POS charge you for this.

Afshin, What's the number you call to be able to reinstall? This sounds like the answer to my question about installing on a test machine at home. Do you agree? I'd really like to be able to upgrade, but until I figure out how to run POS on a test machine I can't. Craig

The number varies for every region [but there is one for all regions]. So to activate your key or to activate it again because you had to re-install in the US you can call the Toll Free number to activate the RMS V2.0 in case you don't have Internet Access or need to reactivate.

From US - 866-432-3012

It seems that MS has begun to address all of the newsgroup posters that have all but demanded to eliminate dongles as they have been dubbed "old technology" by many posters. There probabally is a better CAL model they could have perused, but this is a step in the right direction. For every person that is happy, there is one that is angry.

I called help number at 8:06 pm From US - 866-432-3012

They said the Average time 6 minutes to be helped Prompt 1 No Prompt 2 Help Prompt 3 No Prompt 4 Call back Prompt 5 Visit website good buy No good

No help my customer that just wanted to spend $2500.00 just left and I said what is jour number so I can call you later and he said don?t worry about it I will call you. When I went to give him my card he said no thanks.

I would like to ask Afshin Alikhani how many retail transition have you processed in the USA I processed over 17000.00 customer transitions and over

65000,00 Item transaction in 2006 with RMS for my own Busines.

How many has Afshin Alikhani processed ???????

The test failed I called number 1 866-432-3012 no help after 20 minutes lost money the customer left.

Solution RMS 1.2 if I lost the dongle I could still operate in evaluation mode in an emergency. And if the customer had more then five items I could ring up 5 and after five you could start over.

Currently the only solution for a brick and mortar business is the dongle.

But if there was a significant reason to up grade to 2.0 like a 60 second replacement register like the dongle does it would might make sense or a 5 item evolution mode with a 10 minute transfer guaranty it might be acceptable .

But still website integration and easy matrix layout that works for older employees to be able to figure out I might consider paying more money per lane for 2.0.

Currently the only staff member who can maximize RMS is former IBM programmer

The reason I purchase RMS was for website integration and there still is no functionality maybe in RMS 5.0.

1 hr. later 9:05 PM Thanks 2.0

Thanks Al

I have checked and this might help you the number we have for product activation> 1-866-432-3012

another handy number is for license keys: 1 888-352-7140

Now I never said the system was pefect what I did mention is that we have had a lot of issues with faulty dongle replacements. The time to get the dongle changed and sent to customer at times has meant that the customer has been down for days. With the phone activation once you have reloaded the software the license renewal shouldx be matter of a phone call [YES I understand you may have to wait and press some numbers].

For Microsoft to be able to step up and start shipping the Retail Products at large quantities [which is where the product is going] they cannot continue working with the dongle. Frankly no company can. They need to have a key activation system. Now I understand that the key activaton system also has downside, but overall once some of the kinks with the process are sorthed out it should be better than current dongle based system. Hope the above 2 numbers help.

But the current key setup has taken away all end user flexibility without paying for additional seldom used licenses.

I can no longer bring up a complete TEST system - without paying for an additional license. I can't have the flexibility of bringing up one of several back office systems in POS to cover heavy volume times.

Why could they not of done something as flexible as an encrypted entry in the database created when you install the first copy - or enter in SO Admin and enter in your product key that sets the limit on how many concurrent POS systems can run? Such a simple implementation would solve all of the woes now created.

At this point I will likely enclose my 2.0 cd and activation key in the pre-paid envelope and return this to MS. I'm much happier with 1.3R and my dongle emulator... There's enough developer info to write your own front-end available and the "upgrades" little more than empty promises of "great things to come"

It's amazing how little this program has changed since Quicksell Commerce was released in 2001. (I actually run the QS status screen as it was better)

I may be swimming against the tide, but perhaps others may wish to fill MS's return dongle department with 2.0 CDs.

Swim on, young salmon. I'm right behind you.

Isn't it hilarious to hear all of the resellers telling us, THE CUSTOMER what is better for us. There is no valid argumant I can see from the end user (retailer) that would agree that the new licensing scheme benefits them. I did not like the dongles in particular, having had a faulty one myself, but this is a ridiculous step backward. There is no way I would upgrade to 2.0, and I strongly encourage end users to make thier disappointment heard (to both thier reseller and MS).

There's only one feature in 2.0 that I REALLY want - and that's AVS - address verification for non-swiped credit cards. We have very few of these, but for those we do, having this cuts down on extra charges.

The adding new items on the fly to a PO isn't too bad either, but not a must have.

Being able to see the retail price on the recieving screen is a BIG plus also. Craig
