Can RMS run on virtual machines?

Our IT staff has suggested to me that for our next retail store, we use a Windows server with VMWare, create the registers as virtual machines, and use thin clients at the point-of-sale rather than full-blown PCs. This is intented to be a money-saving measure, and is in line with our corporate vision of making as much use of virtual machines running on our back-office servers as possible.

I've run RMS on virtual server before, but only in a test environment, creating a single virtual register and testing it on a PC, never in a production environment with thin clients running over a network.

Can RMS 2.0 SP2 be setup to run on virtual machines in this way (It is technically possible)? If it is technically possible, is this an unsupported usage of the RMS software, and the user beware? If it is not possible with RMS 2.0, will RMS 3.0 support this functionality?
