We've had our POS for 15 months now and it is still a tenuous relationship. (Just this morning, at our busiest time, the system froze, needed rebooting, booted slower than evolution, then stated our db login was incorrect. Rebooting both the POS and backoffice db server ---twice --- seems to have done the trick.)
Has anyone begun to accumulate best practices, a knowledge base, workarounds, known issues, hacks, add-ins, or procedures from which we could all benefit? We have had to go this system alone since opening my wife's coffee shop in 2006 and purchasing this system because Microsoft advertised its appropriateness for coffee shops. We couldn't find a Microsoft Partner who was interested in helping us set up the system to the best form possible (because it's not RMS) and CustomerSource is a joke. A costly joke. Rarely do we ever get a Microsoft associate answering our queries.
Our earliest under-warranty questions (such as the absence of a gratuity field on credit card/debit receipts) were answered by Microsoft ("Who tips at a coffee shop?") unsatisfactorily. We since have had to delve into the product and reverse engineer its features to try and get these features to work to our greatest benefit (i.e., printing a barcode at the bottom of each receipt that serves as a coupon for our customers' next visit). But we are still hamstrung when trying to find solutions to critical shortfalls (such as our need to track discounts, including our receipt coupons).
While we suffer through this trying application, a single go-to resource would be immensely helpful, and this forum is predominantly dedicated to RMS (not POS). We can't find a POS knowledge expert. Is there one? Maybe even a separate forum would be a start.
