Import to new account

Dec 22, 2005 2 Replies

I have been trying to import data to a new company because I am changing from a corporation to a sole proprietorship. When I try to import the accounts to the new company I get an error message:

Error on line 25: Imported account has duplicate account number.

Everything else imports OK. I have never used account numbers so I have no idea how I could have a duplicate number. I have viewed the file and cannot determine where the error may be or even where line 25 may be.

Also is there any way to kill the built in alerts? They are not relevant to my operation and are just a pain to dismiss every time they come up. It always takes two times to dismiss each alert.

Any ideas?

I would bring the import file into excel , and sort the column regarding account numbers and scan for the problem. I would note the offending account, and then edit the original import file. Is that doable?

Thanks. I finally got it to work. Most of the problem was with payroll items. Payroll was disabled but QB is not going to give up that easily. I still have a few accounts which are not needed like bank accounts discontinued five years ago and payroll items but QB will not let me delete them. All I can do is make them inactive. QB certainly is not like Burger King where you can do it your way. It is QB way or else. I am semi retiring and trying to just keep life simple.
