QB6 Pro won't start after system restore

Using Windows XP, it was necessary to do a system restore to two weeks ago to get back a missing system network file. Now QB won't open. I click on the icon, it shows it is loading, then it's back to the desktop with no indication that I ever clicked on the QB icon. I thought the restore might have changed the path so I went to the QB exe file and clicked on that. Nothing happens at all. I figured I'd attempt a reinstall, so I clicked on the downloaded QB file I bought from Intuit and that won't reinstall. All of my other programs appear to be working normally. I'm not using QB on the network and my network problem did not appear to be related to QB.

Windows Restore sometimes causes mischief with other programs, eg I find that it corrupts Dragon speech recognition.

Try each of the following:

Press and hold the CTRL Key when you double click the QB icon (or, if this doesn't work, right click and chose Open). This opens QB without trying to open a company with it. Keep the CTRL depressed until QB launches, then try to open a sample file first.

Rename QBWIN.LOG as QBWIN.LOGOld. Sometimes the log freezes and this may unfreeze it.

If you have a current backup, restore it.
