Backing up 'Renaming Rules"

Your Quicken data is contained in multiple files; when you backup, you back them all up. You can't usefully backup anything less than all of them.

Hi John, I just reinstalled Quicken (and pointed it to my data drive) on a fresh XP install and Quicken seems to have forgotten its naming rules, or should I say the memorized names of the renaming rules? Anyway, too late now, but was looking to avoid similar issues in the future.

I don't think that is likely; reinstallling Quicken has no effect on your data (and your backed up data would contain the renaming rules, so a restore would get them back, if they were "lost"). But reinstalling might have an effect on your "Preferences". You may want to check them to see if Quicken still thinks it is supposed to apply renaming rules.

Edit > Preferences > Quicken Program > Downloaded transactions

Yes, one would think so, but that *has* happened here.

A good thought, and the first thing I always check is preferences. Renaming was turned on (as it is by default). Anyway, the point is moot, other than to shoot for prevention for the next time. But, if the data is supposed to be contained within the data file or back up file, I suppose the goal itself is moot.
