canadian Quicken XG with Action Direct

Hello,

I'm considering to purchase a copy of latest Quicken. but I want to confirm if it will solve my problem. I feel too difficult to track my Mutual fund transactions to file the tax return. so I'm looking for a s/w to help.

my question is, can Quicken XG be used to track the transactions with RBC investment mutual fund account and the Action Direct? from their web page, there is no way to download the history directly.

or any other suggestion?

thanks

I would say, yes.

A quick look at their web page indicates that you can, "Download account information to the financial management software program of choice".

Most financial institutions place a limit on the amount of history they retain for downloading purposes, so the above does not promise that you can download every transaction you ever executed there. You should call the fi and ask them about the specifics.

You're wrong. Quicken XG will download banking transactions from RBC (i.e. chequing, savings, line of credit) bit it does not automatically download investment transactions, either from RBC or from Action Direct.

You can still use Quicken XG to track the investments, but you will need to enter the information for each transaction manually. You can look up the information through the RBC/Action Direct online banking service, but you can't download it automatically into Quicken.

thanks.

so far I still use quicken 2002 which needs me to manually input MF transactions and it's painful.

some MFs give dividend monthly, which makes me hard to track. at the year end, i still have to calculate gains/cost manually.

is there any other solution?

thanks

Although my research was not exhaustive, I don't know of any Canadian brokers which allow downloads of investment transactions.

As of now, I think your best solution is to enter the transactions manually. Once you've entered all transactions, Quicken will properly report your gains and losses.
