Chase Accounts

I have two Chase CC accounts. When I do an OSD, I keep getting a message that I have to change the way to update Chase accounts, but it isn't clear what I need to do. Can someone tell me?

We've been discussing this for the last month, and I think Quicken had sent an email or pop up with the directions, but just in case not:

Good luck!

I've seen that page. That's what confuses me. It says "When you update your accounts in Quicken, you will be prompted to change to the new EWC+ connection method."

I am not.

That's interesting. So what does the ACCOUNTS page say your connection method to Chase is?

If you're really an adventurist, you can try to disconnect your connection to your Chase accounts and re-connect; I would think at that point Q and Chase would play together to use EWC+ at that time.

You should not need to be prompted; I think Andrew has the right idea.

Try this:

- backup your Quicken file

- deactivate all your Chase accounts

- initiate the Add Account process (from the top of the Account Bar or from the Account List)

- choose Chase

- you should be presented with a dialog with a button to "Sign In" to Chase

- when signed in to Chase, you should be presented with the dialog to "Authorize" your Chase accounts

- when Authorization is complete, the intention is that you be automatically returned to Quicken; if that does not happen, just close the browser window. If that doesn't put you back in Quicken, click on the Quicken icon in the Windows task bar

- complete the Add Account process (which should provide you the option to "Link" your newly downloaded EWC+ Chase account transactions to your deactivated Quicken Chase accounts). MAKE SURE the "Action" dropdown says "Link to existing" and MAKE SURE the "existing" account to link to is correct.

FWIW - The last three September Quicken updates have fixes in for Chase migration:

Release R43.32 (US Versions, September 2022) What’s Fixed An issue where migration to Express Web Connect Plus caused duplicate transactions for Chase investment accounts.

Release R43.26 (US Versions, September 2022) What’s Fixed Resolved an issue causing some users to see the “Check Pay account sync error" message. Some Chase customers were unable to migrate to Express Web Connect Plus. Some customers were erroneously required to set up Check Pay again.

Release R43.20 (US Versions, September 2022) What’s Fixed While reauthorizing Chase accounts, even though accounts were linked, existing account names that are linked were not shown. Also, in some cases accounts were not linked automatically, causing duplicate accounts.

It says "Yes (Improve connecting)." If I click on it, it takes me to "Upgrade to Direct Connect"

There's nothing about EWC+

I'm running 43.32.

It' seems like a fair amount of trouble. Do you think that's necessary? No easier solution?

I'll do it if I have to, but no time now. Maybe later today or tomorrow.

"Trouble"? Compared to what? I don't see any appreciable additional work in my approach than you would have had to do, if you gotten the "prompt".

The backup is smart, but not required. What follows the backup is pretty much what would have happened if you had gotten the "prompt".

OK, I just did it. I shouldn't have worried. It was no trouble at all.

But...

I don't know if anything has changed. On the Account List, under "Transaction Download," it still says "Yes (Improve connection") .

However on the page for the account (Amazon Chase Visa), it says, "Express Web Connect +" I hadn't noticed whether it said that before. I guess its saying that is good, but I don't understand why it says "improve connection" on the Account List.

Is everything OK now?

The Quicken fidir.txt file which contains the Connection Methods offered by each financial institution still shows Chase offering Direct Connect. At some point that should change, which hopefully prevent Quicken from thinking there is a better Connection Method than EWC+. In the meantime, I wouldn't worry about it: YOU know that there is no way you can "improve" your EWC+ Connection Method.

There have been some issues reported with EWC+ for Chase.

One issue, which I believe, has been true for other EWC+ financial institutions, is that the downloaded Online Balance is incorrect for some users (because it incorrectly includes the amount of transactions pending (received, but not cleared) at the financial institution. To my knowledge, there is nothing that users can do about the value of the Online Balance (but wait for the guilty party/parties to fix it); so anyone with an incorrect Online Balance who has been reconciling to an Online Balance will have to either reconcile to a paper statement, or manually reconcile (select transactions to be reconciled, right-click a selected transaction and select "Edit transaction(s)", then use the resulting "Find and Replace" dialog to change the "Cleared Status" for the selected transactions to "R").

I only have one Chase account - a credit card - and its EWC+ Online Balance is correct.
