How can I hide a closed account on the Property & Debt tab?

The original poster says, "I've successfully hidden closed accounts there before, but can't get this one to go away. The settings on a prior hidden/closed account appear to be the same ....".

I have no idea why the op did not specify the exact settings that "appear to be the same" (it's a bad idea to make those you're asking to help have to guess what you did); but since that potentially useful info is missing, it's not clear just what the underlying problem is.

And, as already noted in the discussion, it is a simple matter to use the "Custom ..." dialog to select the exact accounts to be displayed on the Property & Debt tab.

But I find that virtually every time someone says their "hidden" account is not hidden where they're looking, it's because they have not chosen the correct "Display" option (in the Edit Account Details dialog) for the account.

Putting a checkmark in "Keep this account separate - account will be excluded from Quicken reports and FEATURES" (emphasis mine) will exclude an account from the displays on the Property & Debt tab.

[Closing an account only puts a checkmark in "Hide in transaction entry lists" - not sure why anyone thinks that will prevent the account from showing in reports or other features.]

The original poster has now returned to the Community discussion to claim that it is necessary to unlink the loan account from the home account, in order to hide the loan account.

That is not only NOT true (see my previous post in this thread), but doing so will make it appear that the net value of the home (estimated home value minus any loans against the home) was higher than it really was during the period before the loan was paid off.

I think I have discovered the problem, which calls for something of a correction to my other two posts in this thread.

I think neither I, nor the two posters who tried to help, had any idea the op was looking at Property & Debt > Property: we thought the op was looking at Property & Debt > Debt (and for that display, my previous comments are correct).

At Property & Debt > Property, Quicken intends to show the Net Value of the property (the Equity in the property) over time - in the form of a horizontal bar graph displaying a green horizontal bar for the property value and a red horizontal bar for the loan(s) against the property. In order to accurately show this graph, Quicken includes ALL the loans that have ever been linked to the property (as it should), ignoring the hidden characteristic of any loan on the property.

So technically, the op is correct: the only way to prevent a loan against a property from appearing at Property & Debt > Property, is to unlink the loan from the property ... making the display of the horizontal bar graph for the property WRONG (*). It's hard to grasp what purpose viewing the horizontal graph for the Net Value of a property has when any loans against the property are excluded.

[ (*) The equity graph display on the Overview tab for the property and for the loan will also be wrong when the loan is not linked to the property.]
