Converting 2007 file to 2008

You heard wrong! Q08 will automatically convert your '07 data into the '08 format. I suspect many others will add their confirmation to this thread.

2008 better than Q2007. Q2006 was definitely different from Q2007 and Q2008, which are fairly similar.

Note: I have now Q2008 deluxe, and got a notice that I could upgrade (for a fee presumably) whe I converted my Q2006 premier file. I have not upgraded as yet.

The Quicken "Starter" edition, which is next to free, and available at office and entertainment retail stores, will not convert prior version Quicken data. You would need to purchase Basic, Deluxe, Premier, or H&B to convert existing data from an earlier version of Quicken. It's possible the sales person was referring to the Starter edition, or just didn't understand the difference between Starter and all others.

Thank you, Steve. It is indeed possible that is what the salesman thought. Fortunately, for me, I would not be getting the basic edition. I'd most likely go with the Deluxe edition as that's what I've used for many years now and it (usually) fits my needs.

Q2008 does not have a Basic "edition": you can get either the Starter Edition, or the Deluxe Edition ... and above.
