Converting 2007 file to 2008

I've not yet upgraded from 2007 to 2008 because I heard (and have not been able to verify) that 2008 will not accept data from 2007 Quicken. Is this true? We *really* have to create a new file and start from scratch? Or have I just been given a line from the salesman who was trying to convince me that MS-Money is better. I find it hard to believe that after this many versions of Quicken that Intuit wouldn't find some way to convert are existing files, since they've done that with every previous version.

You heard wrong! Q08 will automatically convert your '07 data into the '08 format. I suspect many others will add their confirmation to this thread.

It worked fine for me. Both from my trusty old Q2006 premier files and from the temporary Q2007 file I had created from the Q2006 one a couple of months before. I bought a laptop and decided to try out Q2007. I like

2008 better than Q2007. Q2006 was definitely different from Q2007 and Q2008, which are fairly similar.

Note: I have now Q2008 deluxe, and got a notice that I could upgrade (for a fee presumably) whe I converted my Q2006 premier file. I have not upgraded as yet.

The Quicken "Starter" edition, which is next to free, and available at office and entertainment retail stores, will not convert prior version Quicken data. You would need to purchase Basic, Deluxe, Premier, or H&B to convert existing data from an earlier version of Quicken. It's possible the sales person was referring to the Starter edition, or just didn't understand the difference between Starter and all others.

Thank you, Steve. It is indeed possible that is what the salesman thought. Fortunately, for me, I would not be getting the basic edition. I'd most likely go with the Deluxe edition as that's what I've used for many years now and it (usually) fits my needs.

Fortunately for you.

Q2008 does not have a Basic "edition": you can get either the Starter Edition, or the Deluxe Edition ... and above.
