Deleting payees from Q2006 dropdown list

May 02, 2006 6 Replies

There are many unwanted variations of a single payee present in the payee dropdown list, usually due to account number changes, etc. Efforts to pare them back included cleaning up the online payee list, memorized transaction list, and checking the "remove payee's not used in xx months". They still remain.

Using quicken 2006. TIA for any successful methods to remove these unwanted payees. Winner gets a new car.

I'd like a Bentley, please.

Your changes deal with future transactions. Use Edit>Find & Replace>Edit/Replace. Search for the old payees with "Payee", "Contains" to capture variations, check (click in box) those you want to change, then use "Edit Transactions" and fill in "Replace selected fileds with" section.

Done.

The Bentley should, preferably, be the sporty two-door in black.

Thanks

Jay

You might also try seeing if you have multiple entries (or unwanted entries) for them in the Address Book as well. I had a payee I couldn't figure for the life of me where it was still getting info from, and that's where is lurked, despite my not explicitly using the 'Address Book'. I am not saying for a fact this has anything to do with your problem, but it might have some bearing.

Thank you!!! I had this problem too, and tried Jay's suggestions, but they didn't help. This was perfect!

No problem Andrew; attribution isn't a big deal with me. I have learned a ton from reading this newsgroup and have forgotten the source of most of what I've learned. I just have to hope those folks understand when I don't give them credit.

Lemme see if I understand this: even though a payee is no longer in the payee list, if you happen to have a [historical] transaction that was sent to that payee, Quicken will continue to 'remember' it? You learn something every day..:o) [also accounts for why it is so hard to 'fix' this for someone [like the lab my Dr. uses] that gets me a different account/invoice number every time: the previous transactions are always still there in my register.] tnx!
