Every piddly little item I enter is memorized forever until I manually delete it from the Memorized Transaction list. But items that are entered each month but not schedueled are promptly forgotten, and need to be manually re-entered each month.

You can turn off "Automatically memorize new payees" in Preferences. If indeed you are making the same transaction each month, why not go ahead and Schedule them? Is it possible that you have those transactions locked so you can't update them?

As is normally the case, such things are "fixed" with education. I highly recommend you get some. Indeed, it's quite a liberating experience ;-)
In the meantime, what does Edit: Preferences: Quicken Program: Register: Remove memorized transactions after X months say in your Quicken? And how about Edit: Preferences: Quicken Program: Quickfill: Automatically memorize new payees? Hell Quicken even annoying offers to create scheduled transactions for you.
Just because your ignorant of the program's capability does not necessarily mean you need to come in here all huffy and puffy proclaiming the program is somehow "backwards". It's you who is backwards who ask questions without the least bit of investigation towards the solutions to your perceived problems.
Also, I don't think any other posters have mentioned you might wish to manually memorize the ones that you entet each month so that they are readily available the next month you need them. either because they're automatically scheduled, or you recall them via Quickfill.

I haven't Schedueled these transactions because the amounts vary. But maybe I will, and set it to notify me a few days in advance, and manually fix the amounts that way.

"Manually memorize"? Not being at my home PC right now, I'm guessing go into Memorized Transactions and add one there? I don't think I've tried that.

So let's review. You come in here like a noobie complaining about s*it because you can't be bothered to read the f****ng help and try a few things and I'm the one with an attitude who will not get far. Boy do you have that one backward!
After you enter a transaction in your register, CTRL/M will memorize it to the list. Typically, I'll add an entry without an amount, memorize it so that future recalls can be used (without an amount) and manually add the amount in on a case-by-case basis, such as when I enter a charge slip for the local CVS, for example. And like I 've seen in one of the previous posts, I have Q set to delete memorized transactions not used over 3 or so years to try to keep the list down to a manageable number.
