Menu Bar - Quicken Deluxe 2006

Hi All, Successfully imported all of many accounts/files into '06 from '02 version... seems like everything is fine.

BUT the menu bar, while easy to configure, does not have an EXIT button as did my 2002 and I believe a later version as well. Any ideas on how to get one? Thanks.

Can you explain what the difference is between an "Exit" button on the Quicken *toolbar* and the "X" on the Title Bar?

Can one really tell what Quicken's programmers assigned to each of those events? It could lead to the same callback (most likely, but it may not.

YUP! Simple preference of use. Like car colors, how we comb our hair or dress. I have used for as long as Quicken has been out (nearly) the EXIT button on the toolbar (indeed, I seldom use the X on the open window as 'very' early in the onset of windows it was suggested to always use the "exit" selection under file although most often programmers made the 'X' and the 'EXIT' synonymous) - but I still like the little EXIT button on the Toolbar. So, as you didn't really address the first question, I am concluding that you either don't know, won't tell, or do know that there is NO such choice and are just rattling my cage - ;^) Oh the trials of life... to live w/o an "exit strategy"... sigh.

The reason I asked the question was:

1.) I do not remember there being an Exit button available for the toolbar 2.) I could not find an Exit button for Q2005 or Q2006 3.) I thought that if there were something different about an Exit button and the "X", and you told me what it was, I might be able to figure out how to put an Exit button on the toolbar. (If an Exit button did something special that other exit methods did not, I thought it less likely that it would have been removed from Quicken).

But, since there is no difference and the button does not seem to be available, I conclude that you are out of luck.

Back in the old days we used to distinguish EXIT, gracefully ending a program, from ABORT, which interrupted the program immediately at that point in time. EXIT would give the program time to close all files and update its databases and besure things such as the registry were in order. ABORT is like hitting it with a hammer and is an instantaneous interrupt and can leave all sorts of things up in the air. ABORT lead to unstable file systems, the need to run CHKDSK, errors.

The EXIT on the File menus is the safe EXIT. Finally, Microsoft gave up the the ABORT function, although you can still get it via the Task Manager. There is no need for a button with that functionality in any program. If it is there it should be the same as the standard EXIT.

Is Alt+F4 quicker?

Alt+f x invokes the file menu, then selects exit. Alt-F4 selects the window manager's close (X) box.

Never tried + Is it faster? It should be - it's 1 less key! gotta go quickly bye, bye Jim M. PS - to send this message quickly, don't click the send button Use +

Alt+F4 is faster & easier for me, but don't understand why Ctrl+F4 won't close qkn's windows; that would really be a nice addition. There are several keyboard shortcuts that don't work w/qkn. In an earlier version,Ctrl+P, printed the portfolio page rather than the report you had up. At least that shortcut works w/06.

Ahhhhhriggghhhttt.... I get it. No "exit" button. I'll just turn the power off! ;^)

Using the big black X - but the File menu by keystroke does it as well... and you could CTRL-ALT-DEL and end the whole process, ouch...

Did like the little button though.

Unfortunately. And some things that they could add shortcuts too don't have them. And, as you pointed out, which do changes from version to version.
