Old version not loading

Don't laugh, but I am trying to load DOS Quicken ver #6 on my Win XP Professional PC. I am in the DOS environment. Everything goes well until the last disket has loaded. Then I get an error message saying that my disket is write-protected OR the drive door is not closed. My the last loaded disket is niether write-protected nor is the drive door open. Anybody seen this crazy error ?? I purchased the Quicken package 5 years ago for $25 at a garage sale. Quicken cannot or will not provide any support.

XP does not really provide DOS but rather an emulation and it is probably missing some function(s) that that version of Quicken needs.

Can you copy all the diskettes to your harddrive first and then install from there?

You can try the DOS verify command to verify that no files are corrupted on the floppy disk. Then if that is ok, try making a copy of the floppy and loading from that. Use the DOS diskcopy command for this.

My XP machines all have an autoexec.bat file but it is empty. As I recall from my DOS days, the file installer would first rename autoexec.bat to autoexec.old and then make a new file that is updated with the program specific info. I would try renaming the file to .bat and installing again to see if the program did indeed rename file.

Good luck Marty
