I'm running Quicken 2008. When I choose Send Payments and look at the Online Center, there is a dropdown box listing two accounts from which the funds to be paid will come from. One of those accounts is the one I *always* want to use to send a payment. The other is an account with a very low balance that I never use for this purpose. Unfortunately, the one I never want to use is the default.
Is it possible to remove the account I never want to use from the list? Is so, how?
Thanks.

Alternatively, if there's no way to remove the account, is there a way to change the order so that the default is the other account, not the one I want to remove?
Thanks.

If I understand you correctly, you have two Quicken accounts setup for billpay, but you never use one of them.
If that's your situation: Go to the Overview tab (or button) of the account you do not use for billpay, and click the "Change Online Services" button in the Account Attributes pane. Then you should see a button to "Deactivate Online Payment".

Yes, you understand me exactly.
Super! That's exactly the choice I was looking for, but didn't know how to find. Your instructions worked perfectly. Thanks very much.

Just one point I should mention, and ask about. I accidentally did this to the wrong account. I then reversed the setting and put it back, and then did it to the other account.
I had three future payments pending from the account I did it to accidentally. I assume that my reversal of the change after I made the error leave those still ready to be paid on the scheduled dates, and there will be no problem with those payments. Is that assumption correct?

I've never done that myself (and I'm reluctant to test it), so I'll just be guessing. And my guess partly depends on the meaning of the words "future payments pending".
Normally, Quicken won't let you schedule online payments with an fi that does not have Online Billpay activated ... but I don't know what Quicken does with scheduled online payments after you deactivate billpay for the account they were scheduled to be paid from.
If no instructions had been sent to the billpayer, I think you can just look at your Scheduled Transactions and see if the payments are still scheduled; if not, re-schedule them.
Or if the instructions were waiting to be "Sent" to the billpayer, you should be able to look in your Quicken register to see if they are still in a "Send" state. If not, you might reset the date on the Scheduled Transaction, to cause Quicken to regenerate the billpay instruction.
If the instructions had already been sent to the billpayer, I'm not sure how the billpayer would treat your notification to deactivate billpay. But you should be able to determine that by logging on to the the billpayer's web site to see if those specific payment instructions are still outstanding there. If not, I think you could just re-schedule them; at the billpayer's site, or in Quicken.

Thank you. I don't think I had ever registered on their web site, so I just called them, and verified that the three scheduled payments are still there at the bank. So all is well.
Thanks again.
