My Q2007 Deluxe (R5) auto-update is not seeing transactions in my accounts, at times, although it reports that the updates were "successful."
When I check these accounts a minute or so later using a manual web connect, several transactions that should have been downloaded are there, and I can download them into Qkn directly from the FI website.
Is this some kind of setup problem, or does Qkn 2007 have some issues with doing this accurately?
TIA.

When you say FI, do you mean generic financial institution or specifically Fidelity Investments? If the former, I find that Express Web Connect is usually 1-3 days, sometimes a whole week behind my credit union web site. Fidelity should be Direct Connect, and they tend to update in the evening, so transactions during the day won't download for me till night time. HTH. Bob

To expand a bit on Bob's comments: if you are using Express Web Connect, you should know that it only gets access to new transactions once every 24 hours. Depending on what time of day that access occurs and what time of day you download, your download could be 23 hours and 59 minutes out-of-date.
Plain Web Connect, does not have that restriction. [Nor does Direct Connect.]

I first use Quicken One-step Update. I don't know if it uses Express Web Connect or something else. But quite often it misses picking up transactions at my financial institutions, which are just banks.
Then shortly after trying Qkn OSU I find that I can access those missed transactions by directly logging into the bank's website and manually loading them into Quicken.
I'm trying to find out if this is normal behavior for Qkn 2007 (and later).
Thanks

I suggest you update your Quicken fully. This was a problem for awhile with me and then went away. I always thought it was the further updates that corrected it.

Easy enough to determine: open the account to the Overview tab (or button), click the "Change Online Services" button in the Account Attributes pane. If Quicken says you're "Connected via Direct Connect", you're NOT using Express Web Connect. I think Quicken will use the phrase "Express Web Connect" to describe your connection if that's how you're connected, but I don't have any Express Web Connect fi's to verify that with.
Please clarify if you are talking about an all-or-nothing difference. When transactions are "missing", is it ALL transactions that you could download using plain Web Connect? Or were some transactions successfully downloaded using One Step Update, and others had to be retrieved using Web Connect?
It's normal behavior for all versions of Quicken that offer Express Web Connect to only get new Express Web Connect transactions once every 24 hours. Plain Web Connect transactions, on the other hand, are available the minute the fi puts them on their web site (if they are not "pended" transactions).
If you're using Express Web Connect, you can fairly easily determine if it is the built in delay that is creating your problem. Next time you find there are transactions at your fi's web site that did not download, do NOT try to download them immediately by initiating the download from the fi's web site. Wait 24 hours and try another One Step Update to see if that picks up those transactions.
If you don't use Express Web Connect, I don't know of any reason why you wouldn't be getting all your transactions, but Quicken is still limited by what the financial institution supplies ... and each method of download (Direct, Web Connect, and Express Web Connect) has the possibility of being fed different transactions by the financial institutions or by the defined limitations of the method.
If none of the "eligible" transactions are being downloaded, I don't have any other ideas. There have long been reports of users downloading transactions, seeing an indication that Quicken received the transactions, but the no transactions being available in the "Accept transactions into register" window. There have also been multiple workarounds offerred; some work, some don't.
If some "eligible" transactions are being downloaded (appearing in the "Accept transactions into register" window) while others are not, you can usually determine whether the "missing" transactions were in the downloaded data but not offered in the Quicken "Accept transactions into register window" ... or whether the transactions were not in the downloaded data at all.
But that's a bit more work (too much work for some), and not worth going into unless there's reason to believe that all the transactions were passed to Quicken but Quicken only delivered some of them to you.

Thanks. That tells me that all of my OSU connections use Express Web Connect.
So far, and only sometimes, when I use OSU it downloads NO transactions -- but says it was successful. Other times OSU works as expected and downloads the transactions into the lower part of the Qkn account window for acceptance.
Some of those times when OSU failed to find bank transactions I expected should be there, I used Firefox to connect to my bank website and check my account; it shows one or more transactions available for download, which I then download manually into Qkn.
I'll do that, and thanks for your comments. Sounds as if this is the answer.

Just to add another facet to the mix. It has been my experience that what is posted on a bank's website as transactions is not immediately available for download from within Quicken. It seems to me that there is a delay for Citibank and Chase of about 24 hrs between what I can see when I log into their websites and what I can download. Sometimes it does frustrate me, especially when I would like to see today's balances.

(Later) Well, sort of, I guess.
Quicken Deluxe 2007 (R5) One-Step Update did not download the transactions I saw on two of my bank accounts with recent transactions when using a direct Web Connect to the bank websites with Firefox 3.0.3 until at least 36 hours had passed since I first saw them via that direct connection to those accounts.
Does this meet the "norm," or could this mean that there might be some kind of problem with the Quicken program or the Quicken servers?

I note that Bob Wang has said that Express Web Connect sometimes takes several days to provide transactions that have been posted to his account. If you are certain that does not pertain to you then you'll have to use plain Web Connect to download.
But if you are actually usingI "Direct Connect" and Direct Connect does not (appear to) download "some" of your transactions, you'll have to engage in more investigation to determine whether the problem lies with Quicken or your financial institution. [If Direct Connect does not appear to download ANY of your transactions, you have a different problem ... and I have no help for you.]
You can view what was included in your download, by going to:
Help > Product and Customer Support > OFXlog
There you can view the OFX transactions that were downloaded, and you can determine whether the specific transactions you believe are missing, were actuallly part of the download.

Yes, it pertains, as all my OSU institutions connect via Express Web Connect. So it appears that these delays are normal for this process.
Intuit would do better by their customers if they allowed OSU using Express Web Connect to refresh the data available from financial institutions at least every 12 hours.
Thanks for your comments.

I know that my (Canadian) banks do not download anything of the current day. New transactions are only available for download after nightly processing. Could something similar be the cause of your 36-hour delay?

The delay was measured from the time I could see transactions in my online account at my bank using Firefox with a direct web connection, until Quicken One Step Update downloaded them using Express Web Connect.
Prior to that lapse of time One Step Update did not download them to me, even though they were present on the website of my bank during that whole period.

Sometimes a Financial Institution (FI) will have a delay. It can be based on the status of the transaction (perhaps this is pending in their records) or their policy. I notice a difference between Bank of America between Express (or even Web) connect and Direct Connect. I will generally get transactions the next day (after Bank overnight processes) with Direct Connect and with non-direct connect I had to wait a day or so. Perhaps that is a marketing ploy by the bank? Cost savings? I don't know. I don't think it is a gap in Quicken - just your FI policy.
I once banked with a Credit Union that I could purchase something using my Debit Card. I would drive home and I could down the transaction into Quicken. They used Direct Connect, but it was only one way...downloads...no Bill Pay (you had to use it online).
The point is each FI determines how they want to handle Quicken (or Money).

Understood.
But as I posted earlier in this thread, my observations apply to the time lapse needed by Quicken One Step Update using "Express Web Connect" to download transactions until AFTER they have been posted on the website of my Financial Institution for 24-36 (plus) hours. This eliminates the delays within that institution and its web service needed to make such transactions available via the web.
I can download such transactions myself as soon as they appear on my bank's website, without using Quicken One Step Update.
If I can do so in that time interval, why can't Quicken?
That is my point.

The assumption on your part is the problem lies with Quicken/Intuit. For those of us that want downloaded transactions we all would like to see them as quick as possible. However, it is the Financial Institution that controls the timing. This is based on their systems, the capability of the systems and the cost they are willing to pay to provide this service.
Most FI in my opinion will first direct their resources (money and manpower) to the internal system - web interface to us. There are some FI that will only allow you to download transactions once per month (when the statement is generated). General Electric Money Bank, Capital One are examples. Although I have credit cards with them, I tend to avoid them.
It can be done, because a Credit Union that I used to bank with - Patelco CU offers direct connect and the transactions are virtually real time - I can buy groceries and update my Quicken when I get home to show that transactions. Cost to me? $0.00.
So while agree with you on our expectations, I don't agree that the problem is with Quicken but it lies with the Financial Institutions that you (and I) do business with.

Oilcan: Capital One credit cards can now be downloaded with EWC. Once again, the transactions are delayed a day or so, but it sure beats manually downloading, or entering. Bob

Thanks Bob, I wouldn't have known that because I stopped using the card long ago.
