One Step Updates for my E*TRADE Savings account stopped working. The message tells me to go to their web site and download an OFX file. I called E*TRADE and they swear they never suppotted one step updates. I argued that it worked in January and February. The tech guy kept insisting they do support it, but all I have to do is go to their web site and download an OFX file. After 5 minuites of tryimg to explian to him what "One Step Update" means, I hung up.
Does anyone else have a E*TRADE savings account that works with Quicken One Step Update?
TIA

E*TRADE investments supports direct connect. E*TRADE bank has never supported direct connect. I don't have Q2007 but have heard that it supports automatic web connect under one step update. Are you using Q2007? Did you change your password on the E*TRADE bank website without also changing it in the Q2007 one step update configuration?

Yup. Works fine for my trading & IRA
Hmmm. I've only had this account since December and see transactions from January and February. While I can't prove Direct Connect worked then I'm sure I would have raised the issue if it didn't
Any idea how? Quicken Help is useless

For starters, you need to come to grips with the meaning of the terms you are using ... and the fact that, as of Q2007, "One Step Update" is no longer synonymous with "Direct Connect" ("Direct download").
Financial institutions have two basic methods of offerring downloads to Quicken: Web Connect and Direct Connect ... and that has not changed for quite a few years, including Q2007. Web Connect downloads are less expensive for financial institutions, and they are less convenient for Quicken users.
Starting with Q2007, Quicken has offerred the ability to download from *Web Connect* accounts, using One Step Update: a feature that Intuit terms "Express Web Connect". This change does not mean that fi's that were offerring Web Connect downloads are now offerring Direct downloads ... it means that One Step Update has been "enhanced" to be able to capture data from fi's that still only offer Web Connect downloads (if the Web Connect fi cooperates).
The new "Express Web Connect" capability is not without limitations ... at least one of which is fatal.
One - non-fatal - limitation is that the data downloaded via Express Web Connect is only refreshed - at the source - every 24 hours ... where data downloaded via Direct Connect is as current as the fi makes it.
The fatal limitation to Express Web Connect is that it is unable to deal with the more sophisticated methods of Multifactor Authentication. (Direct Connect does not seem to be affected by mulitfactor authentication). If your financial institution offers only Web Connect downloads, and your financial institution's multifactor authentication requires the submission of, say, 3 identifiers to logon to your account: Quicken's Express Web Connect will not work with that fi (you can not use One Step Update to download from that fi). But you can still download from that fi using a straight-forward Web Connect download.
Multifactor authentication is a fairly new, "requirement" for financial institutions; one which each fi is phasing in on their own schedule. Anytime an fi begins using MFA, it will have the potential to disrupt a Quicken user's ability to utilize Express Web Connect with that fi. The Quicken user may have been successfully downloading using Express Web Connect ... only to find that one day, the fi has implemented new MFA logon criteria ... breaking the ability for Express Web Connect to access the data at that fi.
I *think* that it is possible for fi's to implement MFA in ways that are compatible with Express Web Connect. But I believe that not all fi's are willing to do so (Navy Federal Credit Union, specifically, has told me they are not willing).

John:
Actually, the majority of my Q2007 Web Connect accounts handle multifactor authentication by prompting for ALL 3 or 5 security questions during Express Web Connect setup.
Quicken 2007 must present the appropriate answer when prompted by the server.
I *think* the reason that some of my Web Connect credit cards DON'T work under EWC is that I don't have any transactions do download.
I've "seeded" one of those accounts that's not downloading by putting a small charge on the card, and will see what happens when this billing period ends with SOME activity.
Bob P.S. Yodlee also handles multifactor authentication by storing ALL answers, but DOES download accounts which have NEVER EVER even been used.

I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong. And as I implied, I am not sure of all the details. But I do know for certain that Intuit has said that there was a situation where multiple "factors" (3, in the case of the specific question being asked), could prevent Quicken from being able to do an Express Web Connect download.
I admit, I have zero personal experience with, or any ability to use, Express Web Connect, so I have no way to verify my suspicions.
Still, if Intuit publicly posts that they can not offer Express Web Connect for financial institutions that offer certain MFA specifics ... I am inclined to believe Intuit.
I am interested in the results or your test, but continue to believe that fi requirements can, and do, prevent Express Web Connect from working for some fi's.
The storing of answers was exactly the reason that Navy Federal Credit Union gave me for refusing to offer Express Web Connect. They did not want Intuit to have that info. (I do not share their concern, but that is a different story.)

I'm not going to get hung up with symantics. I want to push one button, enter one password and have all my accounts updated automatically. It used to work like this for my E*TRADE bank account, then it gave me an error (CC-885).
Turns out this problem was reported in

last week and today someone posted a solution that seems to work,

"It looks like Etrade added a layer of security.
What worked for me:
Disable online access to etrade accounts. Re-Enable etarde accounts When you re-enable, it takes you to a new etrade page for online access verification requiring account number and social.
That seems to have fixed it so far."

Yep been through that method. E-Trade Bank does not work through Express Web Connect. I had a nice conversation last November with their Customer Support on this. As for some other financial institutions, they only download once a statement is generated (i.e. once per month).. My Bank of America Online Banking for my Credit Cards is like this and it errors out daily. I am waiting to see when my next statement is generated if this clears up the error.
I do understand your issue, because my Credit Union indicates (from Quicken) that Express Web Connect is available. I swear that it worked at one time, but it has stopped working a few months ago. E- Trade Bank, Bank of America Credit Cards and my Credit Union are my problems. Don't get me started on why BofA can't combine my Credit Cards and Checking / Savings into one Online Account...I did ask.....
Cheers!
