Q2006 Registration Problem

An FYI...

After attempting to register Q2006, a number of times, things just hung.

I called Tech Support (800-811-8766) and was told that Intuit was aware of problems on their end, and the tech instructed me how to bypass registration until Intuit comes out with a fix.

If you're having this problem, give them a call. Because it's an Intuit problem, no Support charges will be incurred.

Real bright, Wildfire.

Care to post any other ways to circumvent registrations, or maybe provide software cracks for the kids out there?

I don't use Quicken...I'm just checking out this NG to see if I want to switch from MS Money.

With almost all programs, registration is optional...it's like filling out a "warranty registration" card. Choosing not to "register" is every consumer's right and it's not stealing.

Even with MS products, for example, it is sometimes necessary to go thru a licensing step, but it's never necessary to register your product.

From Intuit:

"As a registered user of a supported version of Quicken, you will retain access to the investing tools on Quicken.com. Registering your software also gives you access to important product updates that are designed to improve the performance of your software and fix issues as they become known to us."

That makes my point...registering your Quicken product is virtually the same as completing a warranty registration card.

It's normal that you lose a (few) benefits for having filled out a registration/warranty card, but it's not required that you do so, and it's definitely not stealing.

Excuse me...but that should have read "you lose a (few) benefits for

*not* having filled out a registration..."

Sorry for the typo...

You actually lose out on quite a lot by not registering Quicken. Access to Quicken.com is a substantial benefit. It allows access to Morningstar data and some investment research tools, iIt allows you to upload account balances and portfolios to the web for web access and even to enter transactions for later download into Quicken.

You also lose out on the automated download of bug fixes for the product. Although, with the recently released R4 of Quicken 2005, I bet quite a few people wished the download was not as automated. ;)
