Q2011 good until 2014?

I'm currently using Qdeluxe 2009. Intuit informs me that as of April, it will no longer work with the bank and to buy Q2012. I think Inuit has a three-year limit on the software. I see that Q2011 is offered at reduced prices at Amazon, ebay, etc.. So, if I buy 2011, am I good until 2014?

Hi, jlb.

Quicken 2009 - or any other year - will continue working (more or less) forever. You can continue to make manual entries, print reports, etc.

But the ability to upload/download information to and from the Web and financial institutions usually ends after 3 years. The 3-year period usually ends in the Spring, around April. So Quicken 2009 will no longer be able to download information after about April 2012 - and Q2011 after 2014 - as I understand it.

The Quicken 2012 Deluxe Help file includes this paragraph: " How long can I download information into Quicken? "In an ongoing effort to provide reliable high-quality products and services, Intuit periodically retires (also known as ?sunsets?) older versions of Quicken, thereby discontinuing online services and live technical support for these versions. For more information, visit our website."

Their online page

) says: "As a Quicken for Windows customer using the 2009 product, your online services will expire April 27th 2012."

That page also gives sunset dates for earlier years, but not for later ones.

No disagreement, but I'd like to add the following:

When you buy Quicken, nowhere on the package does it tell you that internet access ends after three years. They added this limit several years ago without warning everyone up front, and as far as I'm concerned, it was done in a very dishonest manner.

And given that they don't tell us how long it lasts when we buy it, they can, and might, change that three-year limit any time they want to. So I would be very wary or relying on the number three.

It certainly does on my copy. On the side of the package there's a "Quicken Online Services and Support Policy" write which mentions the current year plus "the prior two year's versions...".

Of course, if one buys a copy each year, this whole (boring, ad naseum) discussion is moot.

In that case, I apologize for my error. I hadn't looked, but was just going by memory. Perhaps it doesn't say that now, but I'm almost sure it never used to say that.

No harm, no foul Ken - perhaps they heard so many complaints in the past, they added it fairly recently. I was looking at my Q2012D box. The Q2011D box I still have ALSO has it on there.

I always throw away boxes and just keep the CDs, so I can't be sure, but I don't remember seeing it in the past.

And I'm sure you very carefully read any and all TOS's displayed on the screen for any other software you own ? Must be living a charmed life, if this is your biggest concern....

One thing I'll add though is to watch out for format changes. As someone who recently went from 2002 to 2011, the migration process was an utter pain.

I plan on sticking with the sunset periods from now on.

Cheers, Ian

With the coupon, at Costco, Quicken Deluxe 2012 is only $19.99. It is hardly worth waiting to buy an older version.

Yes, unless they change their policy, bet the three year policy has been in place for a long time.
