Quicken 2015

R2 is already out...

I'm currently running Quicken 2013 on Win 7 and considering updating to 2015 but think I'll wait until R1 or R2 are released.

FWIW: My suggestion for when to purchase any new version is to wait until Feb/Mar. That will allow you to use the product with its final patch, and return it for your money back (within 60 days of purchase), if you are not happy with it.

You say that ten or so people do not experience my problems, therefore my problems are not caused by Quicken, even though the problems I experience occur in modules that had extensive changes made to them?

Your attempt to explain away the problems in Quicken, instead of acknowledging that they do exist, fails on both technical and logical levels.

Yup.

But obviously, you're not one of the several people Ken Blake knows, so the problem still does not exist.

Thanks for that citation. The list of bugs (some look quite serious) that have been fixed in Q2015 looks quite extensive.

Some of the issues I've had (that Ken Blake said do not exist because he and his friends do not experience them) are on the list, so that's good.

Also, I see a crash involving One Step Update has been fixed. Maybe that is related to the crash that I experience.

Looks like Q2015 may be worth a try.

Thanks again for that citation.

Reread what I wrote: "it's *probably* not a matter of fixes making it into Quicken 2015." Note the stress I added to the word "probably" in this message.

I was trying to be helpful in suggesting that buying a new version

*probably* wouldn't help you and might be a waste if money of that were the only reason you bought it. If you think I wasn't helpful, that's fine with me. You are welcome to ignore what I wrote. But you are not welcome to be insulting when you do so. So since you were insulting, welcome to my killfile; I'll never try to help you again.

Interesting list. I like this one in "REGISTER".

"Quicken keeps asking for password even if user enters wrong password twice."

So what's the "fix"? To allow access into the Quicken file even if the password IS entered incorrectly twice??

Your attempt to mis-represent Ken Blake's comments is an indication that you have more interest in making nasty comments, than in learning the facts, much less solving a problem.

First: you hijacked this discussion - a discussion whose purpose was defined by the originator of the discussion ... ie: Ken Blake.

Then you - insultingly - put words/meanings in Ken's mouth ... which he clearly did not say or mean.

I have Q2014. I can tell you for a fact that many of its reported problems do not occur for every user of Q2014.

If you want to get help with what you believe are Q2014 problems, you first need to refrain from hijacking someone else's discussion. Then you need to provide objectively verifiable facts that will allow someone else to verify that your problems are not limited to you and your particular computer environment. Perhaps, at that point, someone can help you find a way around your problem.

And finally: you need to come to grips with the fact that there will be no more updates to Q2014 ... so no matter whether there are any bugs in Q2014 ... you are wasting other's time complaining about them - Q2014 will not be fixed. In case you don't grasp the full meaning of that fact, let me spell it out: you will be better off if your Q2014 problems are not "bugs" - if your problems are not bugs, you may be able to get a workaround for them. If they are bugs ... you are stuck with them ... until/unless you upgrade to a newer version of Quicken (or whatever other alternative you choose).

Not sure if anyone (including me) posted this URL before, but here's a list of advertised improvements in Q 2015:

(If you cut and paste, make sure you have ALL the URL text....)

Have you installed Q2015? Just wondering on the improvements for Register - it says it can now be sorted by newest transactions first - I like my registers to list newest transactions last! Just wondering?

Thanks charliec

You can sort by newest transactions first *or* last, and you can do that with *any* version of Quicken (at least as far back as I can remember). Click on the Date header in the register to sort on date, then click it again to reverse the sort from ascending to descending order, or vice versa.

By the way, this is a Windows standard and works in many places, such as Windows Explorer, the open dialog in most applications, etc.

You're welcome. Glad to help.

The quote (for others) that charliec referred to is "By popular demand, you can now sort your register to have the most recent transactions at the top?like your bank and credit card web sites. Running balances still work as expected and you can add new transactions without scrolling all the way down to the bottom of the page."

There MUST be something more to it than what Ken rightly says one can do simply by clicking on the date header in the register which indeed does do a sort in either direction.

Of course, to be complete, one can click on virtually ANY register column header and do a sort (eg: check number, payee, etc.). So I don't get what the enhancement does.

Has anyone else actually installed Q2015 and can comment?

There was lots of discussion about waiting until later, skipping this one, my rants about Intuit ID, etc. There were some pointers to Intuit's bugs fixed lists, I think I saw 2 on topic postings from people who had actually used QW2015, but even those were very brief reports.

Now that QW2015 has been out for a little longer can people who have actually used it give us some useful hands on reviews.

Is 2015 any better than the previous version you were using (which version was that)?

Does it have any major regressions over your previous version?

Thanks, Stuart

I upgraded Q Premier 2014 to Q Premiere 2015. I have not found any regressions. Intuit has already published the first patch, so this would be a good time to update.

On the other hand, not much has changed, in my usage. There is an offer for a free credit report. I don't know if it is any good because I have not tried it.

Quicken has been working very well for me. My only complaint is that about 75% of the time, One Step Update will refuse to operate. After I launch Internet Explorer, the problem is resolved 100% of the time. That problem still exists in Q Premier 2015.

That is good news. I use Q Deluxe and I normally wait until Q and Turbotax are offered as a package. Probably in about a month.

Moved from Q 14 Dlx to Q 15 Dlx primarily for the reported fix (which works) whereby the Download and Reminder tabs section is collapsed when you land in any account unless there are indeed downloaded transactions. Hallelujah! Nothing adverse experienced.

Great! I am so tried of those tabs being opened for all accounts - even when nothing is due!

May I ask - where did you get Q 15 and what did you pay for it?

Amazon lowered the price and had a Prime discount, which brought my final price to $49.99, so I bought and installed it this evening. Aside from the mandatory use of an Intuit ID which I was already doing to download security prices, the only thing I don't like is the permanent ad for credit score monitoring in bright green they put on the bottom of the account bar. That really pisses me off.

There were a few things in the What's New list I was glad to see, but overall I'd be hard pressed to see any visual difference compared to QD2014.
