Quicken 2015

What??? Not sure what you're talking about with that quote.

Your post only quoted the OP as saying "I'm getting ready to purchase

2015. I know it will soon be available as a bundle with TT. Will the bundle be cheaper than it is now (50d/70p on amazon) ?"

That's what I was replying to. Perhaps you were answering another question??

btw, I did get the bundle today; Best Buy deducted $35 for the price of Q.)

I bought QD 15 two weeks ago as part of the Q/TT bundle, and so far, haven't seen ANYTHING of difference other than on the register screens at the top is a line that says when the last time I downloaded into that account. And to be honest, that might have been in Q14 as well that I didn't notice.

$12 cheaper (Before sales tax in NY state) than I paid at Best Buy last week. I'd got for it if you don't care about buying it in retail and having the hard media (I assume it is a d/l).

No, it was not d/l, but CD with free shipping!

Updating from 2011 was terrible. It took me six and a half hours.

Why? Well, leaving out the details, since I've spent enough time on this to day: (1) After updating, Quicken wouldn't accept my password. I knew I had it right because I use a password vault & copied it through the clipboard, both when creating the password and entering it later. (2) Their password r emoval tool wouldn't accept my account balances, which I also copied throug h the clipboard from the financial institutions' sites (plural because when 1 institution wouldn't work I tried another. (3) I restored a backup, bein g double-extra careful about the password. The data seemed to update OK bu t I had the same problem with the password. Finally, I figured out that Qui cken was loading the wrong data file. When I manually browsed to the locati on in which I had told Quicken to store the converted data, the problem wen t away.

I thought I was home free, but that was only 2 of the 6.5 hr. When I tried the on-line data update, Quicken imported hundreds of transactions for acco unts I no longer use. I had reorganized my own accounts in the past, groupi ng them differently and abandoning the prior groupings. In other cases, I s topped using Quicken to track specific accounts because the broker's report s were all I needed.

OK, I can understand why Quicken did these things, but why didn't it give m e a way to let me delete downloaded transactions as a group, rather than cl icking Edit then Delete for each one? Why couldn't I retire an account with out taking all of the securities & cash out of it, when I had only stopped managing someone else's money? Why did it insist on putting all of these ob solete accounts on the sidebar? OK, the accounts could be put in the "separ ate" group, but they weren't separate, they were obsolete. Why couldn't I d isable connection to my financial institution without accepting downloaded transactions?

Finally, after a lot of experimenting, I entered phony transactions to zero out the obsolete accounts and closed them, or deleted accounts if I didn't need to save the history, or manually deleted downloaded transactions indi vidually and disconnected the account, or hid unwanted accounts -- differen t cases called for different workarounds.

Part of the problem was that Quicken discovered accounts at my financial in stitution which I didn't want it to track. There should have been a way to tell it "track only these."

Incidentally, it loads and backs up slowly too.

"Updating from 2011 was terrible. It took me six and a half hours.

I figured out that Quicken was loading the wrong data file".

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Quicken tries to convert the last file you had open before you started the conversion.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"When I tried the on-line data update, Quicken imported hundreds of transactions for accounts I no longer use."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

How, exactly, would Quicken know you did not use the accounts any more?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"OK, I can understand why Quicken did these things, but why didn't it give me a way to let me delete downloaded transactions as a group, rather than clicking Edit then Delete for each one?"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quicken has never allowed deleting multiple transactions while they are in the "Accept Transactions ... " window - a more difficult proposition than it may appear*.

Assuming the problem accounts were NOT investment accounts, it was not necessary to try to delete the downloaded transactions, individually, while still in the "Accept transactions ..." window.

The way to handle that situation is:

1.) Backup 2.) Make sure you address any/all legitimately new, or match transactions first ... then 3.) Manually enter a dummy transaction (put something easy to identify in its Memo field) 4.) Do an Accept All 5.) Sort the register on Date Entered 6.) Select all the unwanted transactions (starting with the dummy transaction from #2 above - ending with the last transaction in the register) as you would select multiple files in Windows Explorer 7.) Right-click any selected transaction 8.) Click "Delete" [Once you have done the Accept All, you could alternatively use the Banking > Transaction report (yes, "report") to accomplish the same end, using pretty much the same technique (though you can sort that report on "Date Entered" ... but you can use the Customize dialog to restrict the visible transactions). There is an "Edit" button in the Banking > Transaction report that gives you the option to Delete any transaction(s) "selected" in the report.] [* For some earlier Quicken versions, you could delete all the transactions in the "Accept transactions ..." window by doing a "Validate", but I believe that was incidental to the Validate (not part of its purpose), and - to my knowledge - the capability no longer exists.]
