It's responding for me just fine; it's just not returning today's prices.

hmmm - previously, I was actually getting a message in the log sayng "server was responding incorrectly" ? now - it does respond and indicates it has updated 89 securities, but as you mentioned - the prices have the "est" next to them and they are wrong for today...

FWIW, I submitted a bug report on web Quicken support this evening (Thur

9/13) as to lack of NEWS; I'll see what happens/replies and I'll post findings. Stay tuned.

I am quoting below a post from an Intuit employee about the quote download problems.

[I believe that P.Schuman is well aware of this (but if I am wrong, I apologize), so I think that the nature/tone of his posts here is uncalled for. If he was not aware before ... he is aware now.]

Intuit says (on Aug 6, 2007):

----------------------------------- We are definitely aware of the various quotes download issues and working to fix the problems. I know we've been saying that for some time now, but it is true.

Most of the quotes issues have different root causes so it is not as simple as one fix fits all. Some of the problems require product patches, some require infrastructure upgrades while others need to be resolved with our data provider. The quotes issues that are easily fixed have already been fixed. The remaining issues require much more complex solutions and are not likely to be corrected in the short term.

The majority of the quotes issues are temporary. If you try again later, they are almost always resolved the next business day.

--------------------------------------

I would add that I do not experience the majority of the problems noted by others with regard strictly to price/share values (and their dates).

So Andrew, even more so than before (when Intuit has said that they rarely respond to messages), I think you are unlikely to get any useful new information from Intuit about this problem.

Thanks John - two things :

1) It was about the lack of NEWS I was writing about, not any quotes problem. 2) According to the form I used, I received a ticket number and supposedly, I am to receive a reply within 24 hours (I think that was the time frame), but as you alluded to, I won't be holding my breath!

The News comes in the "quote" download; I assumed that the Intuit author was referring to "all" the issues associated with downloading "quotes, asset classes, headlines and alerts", as it says in the One Step Update dialog. [Missing news headlines is not a new issue, it was well known when Intuit posted what I quoted.]

Gotcha on that. I was thinking he was explicitly talking about NEWS, not the whole quotes process. I don't have any problems with that recently; just spot checked about 1/2 dozen on my individual securities after today's market close, and Q matches my FI's website quotes. I still, however, don't have any NEWS for any of these.

I know that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. If many people complain about the lack of a function, it will get more attention to fix. So we'll see.

The REAL, and more interesting, question, is will Q be able to handle Tuesdays' volatility when the Fed does/does not reduce/keep/increase(!) the prime from .24/.50 points!

The reply about NEWS not being delivered:

"Dear Andrew,

Thank you for contacting Quicken Customer Care.

Andrew, if I understand you correctly that you are not getting news icon. I would like to tell you that we are facing some issues with the Quicken.com server and we are unable to download the News for the securities. The same has been reported to the development team and they are looking for the solution for the same.

Unfortunately, it would not be possible for us to provide you an estimated turn around time for the fix, however, as a workaround, to see the News for the specific security, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Investing >> Security Detail View.
  2. Select the security of which you want to view the headlines.
  3. Click on Online Research and then click on News.

Andrew, we apologize for the inconvenience caused to you and seek your co-operation for the same.

Have a great day and thank you for using Quicken!

If you need additional assistance, please reply to this e-mail or visit our support site at

Well, at least they replied and acknowledged they are aware of the problem (which we knew they knew).

------------------------------------------------------ Regards -

- Andrew
