Refreshing transactions after "memorizine payee" or new reanming rule...

Once I've given a payee a category and "memorized" the payee, why doesn't it change other transactions with the same payee in the register? How can I "refresh" the register to process that new memorization throughout the transactions that have already been downloaded?... Any way to do this besides manually the first time?

Same with "renaming rules." How can I get Quicken to update my already-downloaded transactions in the register to reflect my new renaming rules?...

Thanks!

Kim.

Actually, there is no reason to think Quicken should do as you ask. It is possible that the category you are now assigning to a memorized "payee" (transaction) should only apply to future transactions; I would not want Quicken to modify previous transactions without my consent/control.

It is a relatively trivial matter to change the category of existing transactions; either using the "recategorize" function or the "find/replace" function. "Find/Replace is much more capable, so I hardly ever use "recategorize" which can only "select" on category.

Generally both "Recategorize" and "Find/Replace" can be found in the Quicken "Edit > Find & Replace" menu. If you have difficulties from there, post back.

Well, actually my issue was more with the renaming rules that the categorizing... If I set up a renaming rule where every transaction that has "USPS" in the payee line (regardless of what else it may have), there really should be an *option* I can select to "apply rule now." Outlook has this option when you make message rules, because most of the time you *do* want to apply the rule to the folder when you create the rule (sometimes the rules you want don't dawn you early on in the process.) For instance, if I decide today that I want a Outlook Message Rule to put every email from John Pollard in a folder named JP, I think it makes logical sense that I'd like the option to apply the rule to all prior emails I've already received - since my goal is to have them all in the same folder?...

What I've decided is it will take some time to get all my renaming rules in there, so that maybe a few months from now Quicken will just about be 100% correct on every download.

Now if I can just get Target to give me an electronic "quicken" receipt where everything in my credit card purchase is itemized by category... :) Dream on! :)

Thanks, Kim.

Just to be sure you know; you can use Find/Replace to change payee names, as well as categories, very easily.

Yea, I'd like that, and Walmart too.
