Some Comments on upgrading to Quicken Premier 2005

Decided to bite the bullet, and give Intuit a second chance. Went from

2001 to 2005 (I had installed Q2004, then removed it and went back to 2001).

First off, yes, I can get the cruft around the edges out of my way. I like that.

What I didn't like was the evidence that Intuit has never heard of "parallel operations" when it comes to making the transition from one accounting method to another. Or maybe they don't see a need for "belt & suspenders" - it is only money. :-). In other words, first I have to uninstall the old software before I can install the new software, and the new software is going to be installed in the old directory. I suppose that having Quicken 2005 in a directory "Quick2001" is just an anomaly. Still leaves me with two directories labeled "QuickenW", but what the heck, that's WinXP being its usual self.

Grumpy, I'm getting old and set in my ways. (Yeah, right.)

My take on this is different than yours. I believe that Intuit experience a number of complaints whose origin turned out to be the existance of one or more "other" versions of Quicken being installed ... and elected to take an approach that minimized those types of complaints. If you are determined to have an older version of Quicken installed at the same time as Q2005, you can re-install it after Q2005 is installed ... and live with any of the problems that might create.

That may be the default, but it is not a requirement. I have Q2005 installed in its very own folder, a folder create especially for Q2005.

And frankly, I'd get rid of those old QUICKENW folders.

You can get set in your ways at any age. :)
