TurboTax install problems

Trying to install TT-Deluxe 2008 in WinXPPro with all SPs and updates. Install gets to 87% but does nothing further. The install does NOT lock-up or crash - the program keeps running. It just simply never completes. I used the Task Manager to terminate the program and then un-installed it. I've done all this THREE times. Same results every time.

I have another computer running WinXPPro with all SPs and updates. When I installed TT on that one, it installed completly and normally! I un-installed it because I don't want to run TT on this computer.

One thing that's different about these two computers is that the one TT installed OK on has .NET 2.0 SP1 on it whereas the one with the install problem has .NET 2.0 SP2 on it.

Could this be the problem?

Maybe. You might install .Net 3.5 and see if that fixes it.

I installed .Net 3.5 Sp1 and still had the problem.

Then I used the event viewer to look at the Application events and noticed I was getting Event Id 11312 "Product: AnswerWorks 5.0 English Runtime -- Error 1312. Cannot create the directory 'C:\Program Files \Common Files\AnswerWorks 5.0'. A file with this name already exists. Please rename or remove the file and click retry, or click Cancel to exit."

I checked in c:\Program Files\Common Files and found a FILE by the name of AnswerWorks 5.0.

I removed the file, ran uninstall and then it installed fine.
