Currnency exchange XE

I recently converted GBP to CAD using the XE Trade online service - believing that this was the best I could do.

I needed about CAD12,500 which cost me about GBP5,700

Then I looked on the Travelex web site and found the rate to be substantially better (GBP5,300).

At the same time, the Travelex website from Australia (which I happened upon by chance) gave me the same CAD conversion for GBP5,000.

The XE trade included wiring to the Canadian recipient I believe, and the Travelex site was not giving and online service, but apart from that, these discrepancies seem incredible.

Does anyone know what gives here, and where can I get good advice on the best way to handle such transactions?

Any help would be welcome!
