Failed direct debit

Mar 29, 2007 2 Replies

I just got a bill from my mobile phone company and it shows that the previous month's payment was declined. I checked with my bank who show that the direct debit was cancelled.

But, I didn't cancel it and my bank can't say for sure what happened but it wasn't by me. It was actually shortly after I cancelled my contract but there was still a final bill to pay.

Is this likely to show on my credit report?

I have had a few similar problems recently including one with O2. It would appear to be a bank problem (in my case Abbey), rather than the originator (I believe)

It might appear on your credit report, but as a one off failure no one would be alarmed by it.

In my experience, and I have had a tricky 18 months, thanfully behind me, people dont like marking your credit file apart from as a last resort.

If you "miss" a payment, ie you dont pay in March at all, then dont catch up in April, they will mark it, however just making a late payment, or missing a dd, doesnt show.

It seems they work a significant amount in arrears in notifying the credit reference network. Just checked and my report seems to be up to date for mid feb. I suspect if you make the payments before the submission date of a particular company your ok.

Thats based on MY bad run, and MY creditors, and MY assumptions !
