how long should I leave between credit card applications?

Hi, I want to open several credit cards.

I realise if I apply for several at once they will start declining me. I applied for one today and was accepted. How long would it be wise to wait before applying for more? I intend to apply for 4-5 in total but I dont want to ruin my future credit rating so any advice would be great.

I'm going to live abroad, so I want to have funds available if I need them. If I take out a loan then I will be paying interest on it and might not really need the funds, I think its best to have credit cards available to me then I will only pay interest if I need to use them. I know credit cards have higher interest rates than loans, but I can always do balance transfers to keep the rates low.

I've applied for an online credit card today so hopefully they will tell me tommorow, then I wont do anything else till I get both of the ones I applied for.
