Website to track house price index ?

Mar 10, 2007 12 Replies

Hi,

I will have to relocate with my job, but I'm allowed upto a year to move. I'm looking for a website which allows me to compare house price inflation between 2 areas, so I can decide whether to rush, or delay to make the most of it.

Anyone here know of such a site ?

The hbos site has more house price data than anyone could possibly need

- they do, after all, produce the most widely quoted index.

use the 'take me directly to' drop-down to select the right housing data (under economic data iirc) and push 'go'. Much of it is .PDFs, so you'll need the adobe acrobat reader.

Somewhere like

might give you some guideline prices for the areas

I know of no site which will allow you to track house price inflation over the next year.

IMHO the best judgment call that you can make in estimating the expected change in value of house prices in an area, is to completely ignore what happend last year (and the one before and the one before).

I fail to understand how you can possibly come to this conclusion on the information that you have posted.

I think you have done the house price equivilent of picking your lottery numbers based upon the table of how often a ball has appeared previously. (Ignore the fact that financially, the lottery is a bad deal whichever way you pick your numbers)

LOL...typical

perhaps this will help?.....

A year is not a long time to play on predicted differentials in house price inflation. And you could easily use a full year to get a decent price for your current house and find one that you really want to buy. Start looking now, and move when you can.

The BBC website allows you to view changes in price by area, data taken from the Land Registry:

Exactly ......does the fact that last year prices went up 20% in area A and only 10% in B, mean.. they will do the same next year, they will do something different next year, it will be reversed next year because A went up so people are now moving into B.

If you know you know whats going to happen, pack your job in immediately since you will be able to make a much more lucrative living speculating. If you dont, move to where the house that suits your budget and lifestyle is. If you think you know what will happen, take a pill and lie down in a dark room until the feeling passes.
