Cannot void credit card transactions - Invalid card number was detected, hang.

For some reason we can't void transactions. When I try to do the void, it will first give the error message: "an invalid card number was detected." If I try to re-enter the card information correctly (swipe or hand-key) it starts to process the void, but never finishes. The status bars indicate that something is happening, but I don't believe them. It will take about 10 min to reach the end of the status bar box (the blue squares) and then it will stop and do nothing and the only way to close it is by shutting down the whole program-- ctrl+alt+del.

We can, however, recall transactions for a return... but we would rather do a void. We're on the Vital platform with RMS 1.3 .

With the holiday weekend coming up, I would sure appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks so much!

I don't know about the way RMS handles things, but on my stand alone CC Terminal I can only void a transaction the same day as the original transaction takes place. If it's the next day or later I have to do a return. Now like I said I don't do the Integrated Processing so it may be possible with RMS, however since you are having problems with voids this may be your problem. Craig

Craig, Jeff, thanks for replying.

Jeff, I looked and I currently have 13.1002 installed. Do you know off- hand how I upgrade to 1.3.1009 or later without upgrading to 2.0? Is it a hotfix that I can download or do I have to open a support claim or something? We had a maintenance plan but never used it until it expired. :( Anyways, just re-newed the plan and am wondering how I might go about doing the update... thanks!

You definitly want to get away from 1.3.1002 ASAP. There is a nasty bug with prices changing when you don't want them to. I don't remember the specifics, I just know you don't want to be on that build. 1.3.1011 is the latest build for 1.3R. If you are on maintenance getting a hotfix is easy. Just log on to customersource and open a new support incidence to request the latest hotfix for version 1.3R . They might ask for a CC number, but don't worry they don't charge for hotfixes. If you are not on maintenance you could ask your reseller for it. They may be willing to help. Craig

Jeff, I figured as much but I thought if he was a really good customer and/or had a maintenaince plan with his VAR that they may be willing to help. I'm sure that kind of thing goes on all the time behind closed doors. Craig

FWIW, a reseller shouldn't be giving any hotfixes to a non-Maintenance customers either.
