Follow-up ? Re Importing items via Excel

You'll probably notice that the import utility you found is called QSCImport.exe after you download it.

You're not using HQ, so Afshin's warning doesn't apply.

RMS Store Operations Import Utiliity is the same thing as QSC Import, just has the name changed to reflect the name change of the pos software. The warning Afshin gave you was just for Headquarters. Feel free to use it with Store Operations. Keep in mind that it has been said this utility won't work with version 2.0 so if you need to use it do so before you upgrade. After the upgrade you will probably have to use Retail Realms Import Utility or some other 3rd party utility. Craig

OK. Just so I'm sure I know what I'm doing here...... can I assume that QSC is interchangeable with RMS in that I will be impoprting into RMS where the documentation refers to Quick Sell? I think I understand that my Excel file needs to be saved as a .csv and that I will need to align the fields correctly. WIll I find the fields in QSC have the same names as in RMS?

Hi PRJ, Data import can be a nightmare without the proper tools. I recently changed over a winery from a competitor's pos system and imported all their data into RMS. I wrote a short comparison between the QSC import tool (also known as the Store Operations Import Utility) and EMS Data Import for SQL Server at my site:

You can at least get your customers over intact. Make sure you do not leave the customer ID field blank because RMS will not auto-generate it during the import.

You can use Excel to make up new part numbers if you need to, to switch from your old POS part number syntax to RMS. It may be the same...
