journal of x and z reports

We normally journal our receipts so they are immediately available for electronic reference when a customer wants to do a return or exchange. While this is helpful, we don't feel all that comfortable journaling daily X reports and Z reports. Is it possible to turn the journaling feature off for only these reports?

You could probably achieve this by setting up a second receipt template that only has the x/z report chosen then setup a 2nd printer inside the register properties, uncheck 'Journal Receipts' and choose the x/z report receipt template. RMS should only print to the second printer when you perform a x/z and should not journalize the receipt.

Both of these were useful posts. Thanks a bunch.

We're still a small company, but we need to have these security measures and procedures in place if we intend to grow.

Every cash register since day one has journaled the x and z. Most folks want that in case the original is lost or damaged. I set it up so only managers only can see the journal. Other wise every employee is looking at sales and typical employees think if you sell $5000 a day, that you are making that much each day. They can't fathom things like overhead in their minds. I see your point, but I think most would feel security over who can view the data is better than leaving one's self open to lost totals.

I should add that a cashier should never run a X or a Z. Just bad business to let them do so. At least 3 people should be involved in taking the money to the bank. The cashier, who counts it, the book keeper who balances it and the manager who deposits it. Old school stuff there, but it works. Any less than 3 and you have room for theft.

Refunds and over rings are either manager controlled or done on paper forms and later entered by managers or accounting. Hope that helps. Might want to add for this reason most Major Department stores have a Return Window. Keeps em honest.
