MS Support Contract

We let our support contract with Microsoft expire in May. I was looking at renewing it now so we could have access to CustomerSource and have found quite a difference in prices depending on who you buy it from. Now, I thought I heard you were penalized if you renew after expiration, is this true? Also, does anyone have an recommendations on resellers with good prices?
