MSR Suggestions?

Hello all,

First off, thanks for all the incredible info in this group - it's been much more helpful (by far) than our "premium" reseller could ever hope to be.

We've just switched to RMS and are getting fairly comfortable with most operations, but we're now looking to switch from our terminal-based CC processing to use the integrated RMS system. Currently we use standard PS2 keyboards with bar-code readers "wedged" in.

I've searched but cannot find a firm recommendation of which MSR to use with the RMS system. So far, I've gleaned that I shouldn't use a HID device, and that we only need a reader for tracks 1 & 2.

I'd like to get some recommendations from the group on which way to go with an MSR reader. Does it make sense to get a mini USB reader? Should we get an integrated keyboard and MSR? Which brands? USB or PS2? FYI, we have 4 stations running XP Pro, RMS 1.2, a reliable T1 connection, and our current processor is Paymentech.

If possible, it'd be nice to reuse our wedge barcode scanners, but if there's a better solution I'm all ears. The other caveat is that I don't think our POS stations are USB 2.0 capable - not sure if that makes a difference at all, but it can't hurt to mention it.

Thanks in advance,

-Erich

We are also using the mini magtechs. Very reliable.

Erich,

You should _not_ use a wedge MSR in addition to your wedged scanners. To much power draw for most computers out of the keyboard port.

We recommend the MagTek non-HID USB reader

Great - exactly what I was looking for! Thanks to all for your help (again).
