NEWSREADER-outlook

Oct 20, 2006 2 Replies

I have been using the newsreader on the MS website but want to switch to MS Outlook's reader so I can get attachments.

I have the newsreader working to view posts but I can't get the security to work. I understand that I have to log in to reply.

The only place to put in your email and password is in PROPERTIES of news.microsoft.com under SERVER tab.."this server requires me to log on"

I tried checking "password authentication" and that still did not work.

hints?

that server does not require you to login.

If you "reply" or "reply to All" in outlook express, it is going to try to send email directly to the poster - this requires you to set up SMTP and is really part of an email account rather than a news account.

If you use "Reply Group", it just posts your reply onto the server and you don't need to worry about SMTP...

I'm using Thunderbird as my newsreader now; I like it better than OE, especially for dealing with multiple news servers and multiple newsgroups. To Reply Group in Thunderbird, use "Ctrl-R"...
