POS2009

Does anybody know what kind of reporting will be used in POS2009? Active reports? Crystal Reports? Which version?

Any news on a release date or anything regarding POS2009 for that matter? Can it handle floating cashiers? Does it (finally) support/handle non-revenue items (like gift cards etc)?

Reporting I dont know what to call it but its not crystal or active as you know it now.

Release is still sometime in 2nd qtr

Floating cashiers, Not sure what you mean here, I assume you mean being able to log in anywhere, yes. Does there till follow them anywhere they go, NO

What do you mean by handling gift cards? I know RMS has always done internally tracked cards but POS doesnt.

POS 2009 will be using the new Microsoft Reporting Language that is used with SQL Reporting Services.

Floating Cashiers refers to cashiers being able to take there till(s) with them from one register to the next and have accountability per cashier opposed to per register. In other words the till is tied to the cashier and their transactions opposed to the register.

If you have multiple cashiers using the same register they all share the same till and it's hard/impossible to hold anybody responsible for over/under amounts at the end of the day. I know you can (blind) close the batch(es) after each change of cashiers but this would be impractical and very time consuming (think about somebody taking a 10 minute break or a lunch break). If you use floating cashier functionality (like most restaurant POSs do) each cashier is only responsible for all the transactions they ring up regardless which register(s) they used during their shift.
