Printer speed

I have posted a number of times mentioning a problem with printer speeds when using the Epson TMT88 with RMS. The issues are based around a delay when completing the sale and the printer receiving the print job. Once the printer recieves the print job the print is as quick as you would expect but sometimes it can take a few seconds before printing starts.

I have had numerous suggestions from changing the drawer radio button in the opos driver to high to upping the baud rate of the printer and driver. Non of these have made a difference.

Any more suggestions - do other printers work better? I am loathe to changing the printer as i have found the TMT88 to be second to none on other applications i sell - granted the other applications don't use the Opos driver, just straight forward serial comms - is the opos driver the problem?

Should a USB version work better? - i have tried and it doesn't seem to.

Does anybody else feel there are issues?

Are there any adjustments that can be made in the XML file?

This is occuring on every site i have installed but only a few have complained about it as they have a quicker throughput of customers

Do your cash drawers have a micro switch? We have been advised that were a drawer doesn't have a microswitch, RMS is waiting for a period to see if the drawer opens. When it doesn't get a response it eventually times out and then sends the print job. We have seen this across 20 or so sites, where a new drawer that we sell always prints immediately, but installing a system onto existing hardware with an old drawer display exactly the behaviour that you are mentioning.

Hope that helps...

Thanks Joshua,

I will bear that in mind but unfortunately i don't think it will help as i also have the same problem at our offices on my demonstration kit. This kit is set up without a drawer and nothing relating to drawer is set in the Opos driver.

Interesting that you have had problems though because everyone else i speak to informs me that their soltutions are fine. I was beginning to wonder if it was just me and that i was being to fussy. I have over 20 years in this business and have never experienced an on-going problem like this.

I have used various hardware types (Digi-pos, Sharp, Dell Pos and laptops) and numerous drwaers - i think i am going to be forced to try a different printer probably Citizen. What i can't get my head round is that other people aren't having problems (see Craig's earlier reply to this thread)

Thanks anyway

Marc
