Having run RMS for a number of years in a pretty basic setup, time has come to upgrade our hardware. I purhased a business grade computer without an inbuilt parallel port thinking I would install PCI/Parallel card. Little did I know that XP is not very flexible with parallel port addresses. Tried to configured the Sentinel key using new drivers from Safe-Net and the PCI card but have not had any success. Has any one experienced these issues and had any success?
I know I could upgrade to the latest verison of RMS but seems like a waste of money since Ver 1.2 works fine for us.
Does anyone have a 2 lane usb dongle v1.2 for sale on know where they may be purchased. I under stand that a 1.3 dongle will also work for 1.2.

I made version 1.3 (not 1.3 refresh) work last week with a parallel dongle on XP Pro SP3 with an add in PCI/Parallel card . I believe version 1.2 would work the same way. I don't know what you mean about port addresses - when you install the parallel port it will become LPT1 on your PC. When working with parallel ports you need to restart the computer each time you do something.
How to make an RMS license parallel dongle work.
When you install the current dongle driver or a later version of RMS it messes up the old dongle driver. You will need to get rid of it. Use Add Remove programs to uninstall RMS then use the information and tools below : If that does not do the trick then try them again after removing anything named rainbow or sentinel using: Add remove programs, Drivers, Regedit and Windows explorer in that order.

This link is for the medic program that you can use to tell if the driver can detect the dongle, without having to start RMS and look for a licence violation. (sentinel advanced medic) If this can detect the dongle then RMS will most likely do the same.

This link is to a program that removes all trace of previous drivers. (SSD cleanup) If the new driver does not work then uninstall everything related to “rainbow technologies” or “super pro”, delete any remaining files, run this cleanup, restart and install the driver again.

Geo, We have success installing after market parallel and USB cards into XP. If you need to change the address/ports you can do so from the Device Manage inside of XP. If you need help with this, our technicians here could certainly help you with this.
As far as changing dongles, a 1.3 and 1.2 dongle are interchangeable, however when you purchased that dongle, that acts as your license. Another RMS End User cannot sell you another dongle, even if they are no longer using it without violating their license agreement. You in turn would be violating your license agreement by using a license that you did not purchase. Not trying to be the RMS police, just making sure you are aware of how Microsoft chose to license their product.
