RMS Taxes - change tax per invoice?

Hello.

We have a unique setup whereas we are both a contractor and a retailer. Some jobs require us to pay the taxes to the city where the installation is, while people who walk into the store need to pay retail taxes.

We currently calculate sales tax based off the customers zip code, which works well. If, for some reason, the zip code is entered in incorrectly or is not known it will automatically collect the retail tax (which is higher than the others...so at least we are overcollecting).

Here's the problem. If customer XYZ comes into the store and purchased $500 work of product to be delivered and installed the sales rep would enter their info in, which would automatically make the SHIP TO address the same as the BILL TO address, which in turn would charge the correct tax. This works well.

Now, if that SAME person comes back into the store and purchase something small such as a chemical for $3...when the sales rep pulls up their profile they would automatically be charged the tax for the zip code which their previous order was shipped to (possibly another city)...when it should be charging the RETAIL tax. This is a problem.

One workaround is to have the sales rep add a ship to address which is blank, which in turn would charge the retail tax.

So, my question is two parts. First the "solution". Second the "bandaid".

  1. Would it be possible to automatically (via customization orpurchased software) be able to automatically force the sales person to select a tax code, instead of assuming the customer profile is correct?
  2. Would it be possible to add a custom button on the right hand side of the screen which would say something like "retail tax" that would automatically choose a predefined "ship to" address which is associated with every customer (but not default) that would charge the right tax? For example, it would be the same as choosing to add a shipping address...but would be scripted.

Any ideas would be really helpful here. Thank You!

Eric

Eric, essentially you need to be able to manually adjust the sales tax on an invoice which you cannot do with RMS. I had a similar situation with a garden center. I ended up having to switch my customer to a different POS package, and Microsoft admitted it could not be done and refunded my money.

Merchants Consulting in Seattle has a small destination sales tax addon that has a 'Select Tax' custom button.
