We are migrating to RMS, and are currently investigating the various printing options available (Line mode, raster mode, OPOS.)
I have successfully installed and tested the STAR 743U (USB) in both line mode and raster mode. I am unable to correctly install the OPOS USB to Com port translator (SMJUSBCOM) provided by STAR. It installs almost correctly, but then exits with the message "unable to start the device driver."
The driver is supposed to map (in my case) the printer's USB port to COM3. Then when I install the OPOS register driver I'm supposed to be able to select COM3 as the printer's port and proceed with the install. But since the SMJUSBCOM service did not start, COM3 is not valid and I have to stop the installation.
Has anyone else encountered this error? How do I get the port translator service to install correctly? (NET START SMJUSBCOM) reports the service was started, but if fact it is not.
