Help! Problems with Installation of Quickbooks Basic 2004

Hi --

I have a new notebook computer (Dell Inspiron, with Windows XP Home). I am trying to install my Quickbooks 2004 on this computer. It used to work perfectly on my Compaq Desktop with Windows XP Home.

The setup shield goes about its business, until it asks me to click to re-boot the machine. Then it stops. I ctrl-alt-del, and find the setup shield has 'stopped responding', and so I end it. Then I get a message, "Remote Procedure Failed". The QB icon is on my desktop, and Quickbooks shows up in my programs menu, but (after rebooting, of course) I cannot open the program -- there is screen splash of the opening screen, but it goes away quickly.

On the QB site, there is a notice of a 'known' conflict with a program called 'star' something (I can't remember). Unfortunately, I don't have that on my computer (and it wasn't one of the processes running which they told me to cancel during the install). I also quit my virus software during the installation, just in case that was a conflict.

Any one have any other ideas? I haven't had a problem installing any other software.
