I keep getting messages that an upgrade has been downloaded and do I want to install it now or later. Not install is not an option and it will keep bugging you until you give in. How do I prevent QB from downloading updates and is there any way to kill the ones already downloaded? In preference I set "always ask for password" and "give me the option of saving" but I still get stuff downloaded. QB certainly does not leave me in control.

Which version of QB? In my copy of QB 2002 Basic I am told to click on File - Update Quickbooks (yes this sounds crazy), then choose Options and turn off Automatic Update.

Do you use QB for any on-line functions? I never use QB on-line functions so I block QB access to the Inet using Zone Alarm.

Thanks. That does it. I am using QB Basic 05 w/o payroll update. I will probably have to just install the updates already downloaded. QB certainly went from a nice program for small business to greedy bunch of scalpers.

There ARE actually people in the world who don't want bugs fixed! I'll be damned!

HeyBub

Intuit has a bad habit of adding bugs and/or removing features with their "updates".

My theory is if the program works, then it does not need to be updated. I do, however, update my anti-virus and anti-spamware software because in that case new definitions are needed to catch new threats. I also update most other programs, such as Mozilla and Firefox, and also this news reader, Agent, but Intuit programs are forbidden to access the Inet except under controlled conditions.
