A broken Computer?

When I download transactions into my copy of Quicken 2007, the red flags on the list of downloaded accounts along the left side of window are there. But when I go to the account there is nothing there. Even if I open up the "Downloded Transaction" window by clicking the icon in the very lower right of the screen, there is still nothing there. If I go back to a recent backup and do a download the red marks are back and there are still no transactioins.

Reinstalling quicken does nothing to improve anything. Neither does doing a total reinstallation of Windows XP. Sounds like I've eliminated all causes for the problem except the computer itself.

Think I'm going to go back to Quicken 2006. My backups for that are about a month old,.I don't think that is too old for that.

I think I've eliminated all causes for my problem except the computer. I'm submitting this here in case someone has either seen this problem before or can see another explanation except the computer.

Perhaps you just have mail to read and no transactions... Or maybe you have transactions to send? I believe if you hover over the red flag it'll say why the flag is there...

You do know that a red flag also may mean there's a scheduled transaction that needs to be dealth with? That's the way it is in 06. I assume it's still the same in 07.

What, exactly, is the problem?

Are you unable to download?

The red flags next to each account name indicate there's something there that requires his attention. But when he opens the account, he sees nothing that requires his attention. That's the problem.

Well, I was going to refer him to your post, where you accurately observed that a red flag could indicate something OTHER than a download issue. Additionally, another post in the thread points out that if he hovers over the flag the program will tell him why the flag is there.

The OP, however, seems stuck on the fact that these are "downloaded accounts" with "nothing there".

Of course, depending on how often the OP downloads, there is a possibility that no more transactions exist. However, his comment that if he goes "back to a recent backup and do a download the red marks are back and there are still no transactioins" MIGHT lend credence to an issue with downloading transactions.

Really, what needs to be done is to determine WHY the flags are there, and to determine IF his download is broken. And, if folks in the ng are to help, that information needs to be posted.

As to his speculation that it is a "broken computer" --- I doubt it highly. With "broken" computer there would be issues with software other than Quicken 2007. And, going back to Quicken 2006 would not solve the problem - unless the OP is saying he is going back to a working machine. If it is a hardware issue, and the hardware is replaced, then the 2007 version should work just fine.

IF there is an error (and the simple presence of flags does NOT mean an error) than it's more likely that there is a problem with the installation of the 2007 version. Perhaps he installed the 2007 version in a new directory, and the location for downloads points to the older version.

In any case, there are a number of possibilities far more likely than "a broken computer"

NO. The problem you describe does NOT indicate "A broken computer"

And if your computer were broken, using the 'broken' machine with the 2006 version would not solve your problem. IF there is an issue (and red flags do not indicate problems) the issue is most likely with the software installation or with your files.

Answer these questions: What message do you see when you hover over the red flags? Was your recent backup created in Quicken 2007? Or is it a file from a previous version? When you reinstalled windows and also Quicken 2007, what file did you use to open 2007? When you installed/reinstalled 2007, did you use the defaults for directory? Did you have antivirus software installed? Are you SURE you have transactions that need to be downloaded?

Post Back.
