Accepting Credit Card transactions in Q2005

Upgraded from 2004 Deluxe to 2005 Premier. Ok, some nice benefits for stock tracking.

I'm peeved about accepting downloaded transactions though. I used to be able to quickly go through and accept transactions using only the keyboard and not the mouse. That is, I could hit TAB and tab over to the category, fill that in (when it wasn't already done for me), hit ENTER, and then do the same for the next downloaded transaction.

NOW... you have to click on each transaction before it shows up in the register. What a pain. It has reduced my recordkeeping efficiency!.

Intuit is starting to act like MICROSOFT. Ugh.

I have always done an accept all - then fix up in the register. Seems to work OK for credit cards, since the new transactions are always at the end of the register.

Not a bad way to go. I think I'll have to start doing that. Thanks for the tip!

Personally, I never just blindly do an accept all. Quicken does not always get "matches" correct; if you "accept all" and one or more "matches" are incorrect (either matching the wrong transaction, or even not legitimate matches at all), you will have trouble finding those transactions again (quite a few folks have reported that downloaded transactions were "missing" from their registers, when in fact they were just accepted as matches when they should have been "new").

As a minimum, I recommend manually verifying that every match transaction should be a match and is matched to the correct register transaction. And since that process requires selecting each match in the "accept transactions into register" window, it is just as easy to "accept" each match individually. Then you can "accept all" for the "new" transactions; even if one of them should have been a match, you should not have any problem finding it if you reconcile your account regularly.

It's not as tough as you think. Older transactions should all be reconciled. The newly downloaded transactions will merely be cleared. You can find them easily enough is something is messed up.
