Added toolbar button disappears

I'm using Q2012 H&B, with latest updates. When I add a button to the toolbar (mileage tracker), it disappears when I back up or close and reopen QW. The only information I found so far was for QW2007, to use the Quicken install cleanup utility, which appears to uninstall Quicken completely and require the user to reinstall. I haven't found anything in the *.ini files that relates to this. Does someone know a way to "fix" this without having to reinstall QW? Thanks.

I don't think reinstalling will help.

I believe you're experiencing a Quicken behavior that is inconsistent with itself.

There are situations where a Toolbar choice (icon) is linked to a certain group of Quicken features. In the case of the Mileage Tracker, it's linked to Quicken business features.

For some strange reason, you can add just about any icon to the Toolbar, whether its feature group has been implemented or not; but if Quicken later (during startup, for example) discovers that the feature group is not implemented, Quicken removes features that are part of the group.

So, if you have not told Quicken to make the Business features visible by going to:

View > Tabs to show and putting a checkmark alongside "Business",

Quicken will allow you to add the Mileage Tracker icon to the toolbar ... but the next time you start Quicken, it will note that Business features are not implemented, and remove the Mileage Tracker icon from the Toolbar.

The simple answer is to go to View > Tab to show and put a checkmark alongside "Business" (and leave the checkmark there). That will make the Business tab visible, the Business menu choice visible, and it will prevent Quicken from removing Business related icons from the Toolbar.

[Quicken should probably not make the Mileage Tracker icon available for the Toolbar, when the Business tab has not been selected. Though that too would cause questions ... many of which, would no doubt end up in Quicken tech support ... which Intuit tries hard to prevent.]

Thanks John, but I have the Business tab selected, and it displays just below the toolbar. However, when I add the Mileage Tracker icon and then do a backup, it still disappears. I also checked to make sure I don't have too many toolbar icons. I guess I'll just have to track my medical and charitable miles using the menus.

FYI: I've notified Intuit, they've acknowledged it as a bug, and it's in the works to be fixed. They caution however, that the upcoming R6 patch for Q2012 is very complex, and the Mileage Tracker icon problem may not make it into R6. And that could mean it won't get fixed until Q2013.
