can't update date into quicken.com

Whenever I use one step update since upgrading to Quicken 2005 deluxe I get an error message saying that my Quicken.com can't be updated because I a different Quicken data file is being used and only data file per user account is allowed. How do I fix this?

Loading thread data ...

I have been complaining to Intuit about this problem for over 2 years. Their only response is to create a new quicken.com account. Every time I reload my computer I have to go through this ridiculous exercise. I now have 5 quicken.com accounts and the last time I just gave up and quit using quicken.com.

You guys are talking about the quicken site itself. I remember being asked about it when I installed Q2004dlx and was totally confused, but apparently you can 'store' your stock data on quicken.com or something. I decided against it after first deciding for it (do I sound like John Kerry? ;) ) and as a result had to reinstall to change the option. Luckily I have Total Uninstall which helped out a bit. Why anyone would want personal data stored on Quicken.com is beyond me with identify theft and all. YMMV.

As far as I know, no personal data is stored on quicken.com (unless you use a user name that gives away your identity). The server simply knows that a given user name has xx shares of yy stock in a zz brokerage account. There are no account numbers or other identifying information.

Of course it doesn't hurt to be extra careful, and there is certainly no point in storing the information on quicken.com if doing so has no value to you.
