Hi, ebernhard.
Once more, with feeling...
Here's the little text file that I post about 3 or 4 times a year here, ever since Windows 2000 instituted some security features that Quicken STILL hasn't caught up with! :>(
Download the QSounds.txt file, then change its name to QSounds.reg. When you are sure that it's clean (and that I haven't embedded a virus or something in it), just click (or double-click) on it and WinXP will merge it into your Registry.
(I'm also attaching the Vista version, QSoundsVista.txt for when you upgrade to Vista, or for other readers who are already running Vista. Just change the name to QSoundsVista.reg and click on it to merge it into the Vista Registry.)
The next time you start Quicken, you should hear the chimes.wav sound. Once this is in the Registry, then you can go to Control Panel | Sound | Sounds and you should find Quicken in the Programs list. Now you can choose different sounds, if you like.
Please report back either success or failure so that we will know if this little file is still doing the job.
