moving to Q 11

But the consensus here is *not* to do a Super-Validate unless there's a problem that needs it. From what we've been told here in the NG, doing this as a matter of preventive course can cause more problems than you're (not) fixing.

I've never had a problem with my Brother HL-5040. You do know you might have to set the windows default printer to the one you ant Quicken to use before trying to print with Quicken, right? At least that was a "problem" with older versions of Quicken. Printing reports from Q11 now gets the "usual" Windows printer dialog where you can choose your printer. I generally choose a pdf printer so I can better see how it will look on the printed page.

That is what I recalled and I therefore did not do a super validate.

Han,

My Brother HL-2040 (default printer) compresses an entire online transmission summary in the upper left hand corner of the page in type too small to read. Even print preview shows the incorrect size. It uses Quicken's version of the Windows print function. The same report on my Epson RX500 prints correctly.

Reports from the report writer print correctly on both printers. Quicken admitted it was a problem on their forum a couple of years ago. I've never seen a fix for Premier 08.

Maybe your printer driver isn't exactly right, but I wouldn't fuss with it if everything else works OK with that printer.

Workaround: First print to a pdf file, then open that and print it. Wouldn't that work?

I recently upgraded from 2008 to 2011 and have a Brother printer. The printing problem seems to be fixed in 2011.

Not sure when it "broke" in 2008 but printing this past year has been impossible. I did discover that printing to PDF would format correctly. I was not aware that Intuit was aware of this problem.

The reason for validating before you upgrade is to fix any database problems before you upgrade. Many upgrade problems can be traced to database problems that existed.

You should, at a minimum, run a couple of reports with totals so that you can compare before and after. Don't count on Quicken (or any database program) to tell you about any "fixes" that it does under the cover...

Pretty good deal. Amazon has a similar deal for a total of $82.81 USD. Free shipping, but sales taxes will be applied.
