OLU always wants Intuit ID

After updating to R4 to QD 16, every time I do a OSU a pop up is asking for my Intuit ID. Despite having "Save in vault" box checked.

Is this just me, or are others seeing this behavior?

Just you. :(

First thing I'd try is to uninstall and reinstall.

OK Arthur, thanks. First thing I'll try however is running as administrator twice; maybe the option isn't "sticking" into my settings registry. (Uninstalling/reinstalling is kind of a last gasp effort although I have the CD I can certainly do that.)

I was seeing the same problem with QD15R10. I went back to R8.

Anyone know how to remove your Intuit ID from the password vault? I didn't actually intend to store it there but missed clearing the checkbox once upon a time.

Having the Intuit ID stored in the password vault was useful, until a year later when Quicken forgot it. Luckily I had saved it somewhere else.

Stuart - Where you my chance opening multiple Q files that might have a different associated Intuit IDs? It occurs to me that it may be that since I was in one of my other Q files for a different organization we maintain our checking account in (and thus, a different Intuit ID), maybe Q only stores the last one.

I have just confirmed that the problem described above happens with me with Quicken Deluxe Windows 2015 R10. When I revert to R8 the problem disappears. I have never used R9 (recalled). I always use manually downloaded Mondo patches for updates.

For debugging purposes (in case anyone from Intuit is following):

I do have two Quicken files (FileA and FileB). Both are registered with the same Intuit ID (in @example.com).

The password vault of FileA has the Intuit ID password stored in it and I use this file first so I get "Intuit ID"ed. I was attempting to not store the Intuit ID password in this file in order to see how often it was used, but missed clearing the "save to password vault" checkbox once. I haven't been able to figure out how to remove it from the password vault. I had forgotten the Intuit ID password since I don't use it regularly (luckily I did put it in another place).

When I download to FileB after FileA I never get prompted for the Intuit ID password. If I do happen to try downloads for FileB first, I sometimes get prompted for the Intuit ID password which I then cancel and then switch to FileA. i.e. FileB has not seen the Intuit ID password since the file was first created.

In case it is relevant to this problem, I run Quicken and Windows 7 in a dedicated VirtualBox VM. I usually restore to a constant disk snapshot when starting the VM. Changes to the disk image are not persistent unless I explicitly create a new snapshot. This has a side effect of the annoying advertising boxes don't remember they have been told to go away and stay away. I occasionally create a fresh snapshot just to clear those advertisements out.

I didn't really want to restart my complaints about the useless Intuit ID, but I really don't like it or need it.

I have noticed various changes in behavior of the Intuit ID Authentication with the various QW2015 patches. Intuit seems to still be debugging this useless feature after 2 years. I really wish they would just remove it. I don't look forward to the next time when Quicken suddenly asks me for this password and I might not remember it any more.

Yes, the Intuit ID is completely useless for my situation and I don't want it. It is useless since I can make anything up that I want. Since it is not tied to any software purchase it is also useless as any sort of license or copy protection check.

I have no use for storing my data on Intuit servers or getting credit reports through Intuit. I use direct connect downloads and not express web connect. I do NOT expect Intuit to ever see any of my banking information.

The fact that supplying the Intuit ID password for FileA also unlocks things for FileB is another indication of the poor security design of the Intuit ID.

All the Intuit ID represents is another annoying userid/password which I need to keep track of in case somewhere down the line something useless prompts for it.

There is another bug in Quicken which happens to me about once every six months. In fact, it happened again tonight while testing the stuff above. On FileB which has no investments I will occasionally get prompted for my Quicken.COM userid and password. It behaves as if the upload to Investing.Quicken.com feature is enabled. Since there is no quicken.com account I at least get a warning before the upload happens. Canceling and doing the update again seems to clear the problem.

This demonstrates another significant reason I don't want an Intuit ID at all. I don't want some other Quicken bug to silently start uploading to my "cloud account". If I don't have a cloud account it is much harder for a Quicken bug to cause an upload.

In testing just now, I'm getting a message "A Cloud Account already exists for this Intuit ID. Would you like to replace your existing mobile data with data from this file?" The answer is "No, I don't want any data stored and I would like to delete the data currently stored (and I would like to know what had accidentally been stored)".

I suspect that back when I started I specifically uploaded an empty quicken data file, just for this purpose.

The Intuit ID is so poorly conceived that it is actually dangerous. The security properties of the Intuit ID are not documented (the web forum pages claiming to be documentation are so poorly written that they are useless). Reusing the same ID/Password for product activation, product ordering, Turbo Tax and Quicken web forums is bad security. Is this password protecting my financial data? If so, it sure shouldn't also be used as a web forum password.

Intuit: please remove the useless Intuit ID features from Quicken.

Sounds all good to me! Now at least I understand why it seemed somewhat random until I started noticing it occurred when I switched Quicken files.
